So, I was cleaning the scuff marks off the foot wells and decided to take off the fuse panel. Low and behold I find a loose cable. It looks like some sort of fiber optic cable. Any ideas on what it's used for?
I know that they do computer updates through the fiberoptic link , so that is probably one of the cables that they attach to.
The only parts info for a fiber optics cable at www.realoem.comI can see is that it is used in conjunction with the DIAGNOSIS INTERFACE and it's listed under VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM not nav or audio.
The fiber system consists of a pair of cables. From what I've seen in the R56, each fiber is encased in a flexible plastic tube. If you pull out the plastic piece right above the fuse panel cover you'll see several of them floating around.
Here is a snap of the fiber pair leading up to the CDC location (plugged into an adapter to continue the fiber loop).
