Tailgate unlocking issue

When I first got my Cooper S last month I was able to unlock the tailgate by pressing the unlock icon on the key twice or by flipping up the center switch on the console. Now, the only way I can unlock the tailgate is by pressing the tailgate icon on the key. Any help or ideas? Thanks.

Maybe your switch on the center console died? Is there a fuse specifically for that switch, and it went bad? Sorry, I'm not much help to you. I'm sure someone will have the answer.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, the center console switch continues to lock and unlock the front doors. It just no longer unlocks the tailgate.

I bet its locking and unlocking just fine. My guess is that the pad on the lift gate is not functioning properly, or (like mine) is very sensitive. Seems I have to pus+apply just the right amount of pressure in the right spot to get it to pop.

I pretty much use the trunk button on the fob 95% of the time.

My car is in the dealer at this moment, for exactly the same problem. Its a faulty boot lock and they have to replace it.

Brit Boy-

Thank you for confirming that I am not imagining things. The dealer is not close by, but I knew that when I bought the car.

looks like its the mechanism in the boot itself that needs to be replaced and they have had to order the part and get it painted. Its going to be another week before I get the car back

Took two weeks to get the part from Germany, but it's fine now.

My tailgate opens fine, but when I unlock it using the remote, the remote button requires more effort to open than the door unlock button.
