Drivetrain noise with LSD?

I just took delivery of my 07' MCS. On the drive home, I noticed the drivetrain is making noise at slower speed (when decelerating). Is this normal on the R56's with LSD? On my previous car with LSD (Honda S2000), it is normal to hear this kind of sound.

I have the LSD on my 07 and I've never heard any sort of wierd noise other than normal transmission sounds. I would suggest taking your MA for a ride and see what he thinks

Well, my car has been at the dealership twice within the last 2 weeks. They are ordering a new transmission for it.
BTW, is there a way I can check if they put the LSD back after getting a new tranny?
I tried lifting the car up and spin one wheel (to see if the other wheel rotate in the same direction). I don't think this method works with the MCS' LSD.

it is inside the tranny and replaced as a complete unit.

My 2006 with LSD doesn't make any noise at all. if you jack the front wheels up off the ground with the car started they should rotate slowly with an LSD (Even in neutral). The factory LSD has a pretty low friction %. You should be able to notice a change in wheel rotation speed with the car running after moving one wheel.

Good luck

Had my car at the dealership for the 4th time in 3 weeks. They replaced the tranny, but the noise's still there. Now, they have no idea how to fix this problem. The SA said it could be the noise from the motor or turbo.

I hope they'll replace the car for me.

I hope they do replace it for you. 4 trips to the dealer in 3 weeks?! How far is the dealer from you?

It's over 70 miles round trip for each visit to the dealership (2 hours drive in L.A. traffic).

I just got my car back after the 4th visit. The noise is 70% gone after the new tranny, half shaft, bearing, etc. They said this is normal for this car, but I'm not completely convinced. The first day I drove the car back home, the noise level was similar, and it got louder after every 100 miles or so.
Also, I'm not sure if the new transmission comes with LSD. I lifted the car and turned the front wheel (the engine was running). My other wheel didn't move at all. I did the same thing before replacing the tranny. My other wheel rotated slowly at the same direction when I tuned one wheel.

Yeah, that's usually one way to tell. But not allways.

You could also find a nice sharp turn somwhere and get on it hard. The MCS I drove without the LSD would spin the drive wheel out of a corner pretty easily. There was some minor torque stear and the pressure of the torque steer remained constant in one direction.

My car (with the LSD) you can feel the LSD transferring power back and forth between the two wheels as you drive out. Kind of a subtle left-right-left-right pressure on the wheel as the power shifts from side to side. It's subtle, but it's there if your looking for it.

Does this mean that they were able to fix the groans that were present in LSD specd. R53? They used to replace the transmission fluid for them as fixes but after a few months, my "groaning" came back. Can anyone who used to have a groaning R53 (and now have an LSD'd R56) verify this ? Thanks.

i have a noise in my MCS too. not sure if its the same as yours (you never described in great detail). mine is like a metalic rumbling. took to the dealer and they said it was normal. car has been awesome for the last 10,000 miles. no worries. just drive the car and enjoy. document the noise with MINI and if there is a problem down the road they will fix it for you.

yup, that's the noise I'm talking about. Just wondering if it still exists in the newer models with LSD.
