It fell off, it fell off, it FELL THE "F" OFF!!!!

With all of the trouble my car has given me, I gotta laugh

*sigh* so last week I brought my car in for service, 02 Just a cooper, at Otto's Mini in West Chester. (good people, honestly) I had a list of things I wanted to get checked out. First and foremost, the windows weren't working (yeah, the motors went) that was covered. Then I said the center Climate Control lights weren't working, and since that is a whole unit, that unit was coverd. Sweet. I just have to wait until it came in the following week. Finally, my hatch wasn't closing right. They said it was a known problem and they would cover it, it would just have to go to the body shop for a week and when my Control unit came in, we would schedule for the body shop work. Okay, good enough. (One week later BTW, no call).

Last night my dad was driving the car and the squealers hit the rotor. Time to change the brakes! He got home, and the hatch wouldn't close, so I put the car in the garage and this morning went out to pull the wheels to take a look at the brakes (and to bend the squealers back so we could drive it while waiting for the pads and rotors to come in from TireRack). My home jack does not fit under the car, so I pulled the hatch open, AND IT FELL OFF IN MY HANDS!!! The anchor bolts stripped out of the sheet metal!!!!

HOLY S***!!!!!

So, I called Ottos, and they are going to deal with it Monday morning, hopefully they car get it towed to their body shop and get all of this fixed.

Now, I haven't seen too many 5 year old cars have body panels fall off, its like something out of a Chris Farley movie.

At this point, after getting Keyed, someone hit and running into my front bumper, and now this, I just gotta laugh.

Well, I guess I'll be checking out my rear hatch bolts tomorrow.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Is your 02 still covered by the warranty. If so I take it you're talking about an extended warranty?

YOW!

Gromit is at the body shop getting his fender boo-boo fixed, and then they're going to take it back to the dealership to have a knocking rattle in the back checked out. Now I'm wondering.

Unfortunately our '02s just weren't built very well. This is the first car for which I was ever compelled to buy an extended warranty and the cost has already been paid for in avoided service costs.

That is just horrible! I think you have said it before but maybe a name change is fitting at this point....Catastrophe is just waiting for something to happen and with your luck so far it has. Sorry to hear about all of the problems you have had but nice to know that Otto's is helping you out. Good luck.

LMAO! I opened this thread thinking I was going to hear a Ron White story about someone putting a wheel/tire on your MINI and missing "lug nut day" at college - and so it fell off, it fell the f&%k off!

But, uhhhhh, I guess someone at MINI missed "sheet metal screw trainig day"?

Sorry, hun. Change that screen name ASAP. It appears to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yeah... 10,000 miles to go on the extended warrenty (On a side note, the EZCare warrenty company is pretty good). Maybe I shouldn't chance it and change the name to "Ford GT Eater" or "Cancer Curer" lol.

Fix it, get rid of it, and move on! Use the extended warranty as a selling aid...

Wow, That sucks.

However, I did laugh too. I could just see back in Tommy Boy when he bends the door back on and then David Spade's character comes up and opens the door and the whole thing falls off.. "What'd you do!?" hah.

Best of luck to you for the fixes.. hope your car comes back quick and working well.

Change your name to something like Catastrophe Averted. that way, we know it is still you, but the karmic energy of your name has been completly altered.

Note that the MINI doesn't have 'squealers' on the brake pads like in the old days. If you're down to 2-3mm a sensor that slots into the pad gets worn away and the brake light comes on. I don't know if they squeal at that point or not, but I don't think so.

Sorry to hear about your troubles!!
Appropriate screen name, though.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Actually in trying to diagnose some noise in the rear boot of the car over bumps..I see that my rear hatch hinges (left one) seems to have slipped on the Torx bolt...thus mis-aligning the boot. I am going to fix when I get home...but thought I would add that to the thread

It doesnt see loose...but hopefully fixes the sound in the rear
