Smart in St. Louis

Well, we're not the smallest car on the road in St. Louis anymore.

Yesterday I saw a Smart Car roaming around Clayton. I've seen these cars in London and Paris and am excited to see them in the US now. After I finish writing this, I'll be pointing my browser to smartusa.com to check out where the nearest dealer is. No, I'm not going to trade in my beloved MINI. I just want to check it out. I only wish I was in my classic Mini so I could compare really how small the smart is. Oh well, I'm sure that day will come.

Has anyone else in The Lou experienced a Smart sighting?

I saw on on Tuesday I think. I was at about 44 & 270. He was heading to 270 or I would have followed him for a while.

I've seen them in Winnipeg, Canada but not here yet They are pretty small. Can't say I would take one out on 270

I saw a white one going east on I-70 (between Effingham & Greenville) Saturday morning.

they're kinda freakish looking in my opinion--I saw a few in London this year, but any comparison to the Mini stops at size, trust me. They drove one through an S-turn on Top Gear (excellent car show from the UK) and it was ugly. Think of a suzuki samurai, but even more tippy...

I saw one on 270 a couple of weeks ago. It was cruising at 75-80 mph plus.

I practically could do a Smart, but I can't do tippy. If that's the deal then I'm .

I saw one on the road a few weeks ago. On 40 between Lake St. Louis and Wentzville. I couldn't believe it. The last time I saw on was in Germany a few years ago. I wonder if they are going to sell them in vending machines here too.

Smartcar Sightings....

I saw one recently around the Sunset Hills area, near 44/270 and I think there is one at a dealership on Kingshighway (the one where they have MINIs for sale also.

They are SMALL cars. Maybe Schnucks could pick up the dealership and offer them in aisle 15 with the gemeral merchandise.

I didn't think they were selling them in the U.S. yet. With all of you seeing them, I assume they are selling locally? Anyone confirm?

Smart.........or not so Smart

Bimmers R Us brought in 30 cars from Canada, have converted them to US Specs. and are selling them at a premium. I have seen several around town, a couple wrapped in advertising.
Next year when MB starts selling them in the states thru Penske's "United Auto Group" dealerships, the price will be quite a bit more resonable.
There aren't any "United Auto Group" dealerships in Saint Louis. It should be interesting to see who will be selling the US car here.
I would wait to get a real US car. I drove one in France, they are fun, but NOT A MINI!

My nephew was at Strassenfest and said there was a display set up. $30K or $35K for a convertible. Don't think Schnucks can ring that much up on their registers!

The are being sold in the St Louis area by Fiesta Smart Car

The Estimated Gas Mileage for the United States is about 53 mpg on the Highway and 43 mpg in the City.

Still, the only true "smart" car decision is opting for a MINI. But of course, I'm biased....

While the MINI is small, its a perfect size for me. Anything smaller though and I don't think I could handle it... Sorry no Smart car for me... SUVs are too big, Smart is too small, MINI is just right!

theres one for sale at the Ford dealer near the schnucks in kirkwood. There used to six or so. Never saw a price tag. I heard it was about $5000 on top of the price of the car to make it legal in the US if u wanted to bring one in from Canada.

My wife and I stopped at Westfield Shopping Town/West County Mall (or whatever the heck it's called now) on Saturday after the Balducci event and they had a Smart Car (not sure specific model) in the mall with some promotional paperwork. I think they had it labeled at $35,000+, so it's obviously an import/conversion or whatever. I would think in the sub-$20k range it would be a viable option for the right owner. I'll stick with my MINI, thanks!

aren't the "official" Smarts going to start from $13k-$15k. thought i heard that on a news show that was doing a story on them and was interviewing a guy from DaimlerChryser.

From: Chicago.. yes, Chicago

I just spent the weekend driving a Smart Car all over downtown Chicago for a Target stores promo. They're tiny for sure. Not peppy as a MINI... but for densely populated area where mostly city driving will occur, the Smart looks to be a good alternative. 3 cylinder, regular gas powered, rear-wheeled car. 40-60 mpg. Its a neat little car.

I'm neither for nor against this car. I just wanted the opportunity to drive it for an extended period of time and I got that chance

Carry on

We got some free advertising in the CNN piece they're running now on Smarts---
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tec....smart.car.cnn

'even the Mini Cooper is Major, compared to the Smart Car'

Btw, our car in a graphic next to a Camry and a Smart looks super-mean
