The End of the Forest Park Balloon Race!
The End of the Forest Park Balloon Race!
I'll try to keep this as succinct as possible, as I tend to be extremely wordy:
I was on my way home from work, sad because I couldn't participate in any of the MINI events scheduled for today. I was still sad from the night before, having not gone to the Balloon Glow, because "said" boyfriend stood me up. Balloon Weekend is very important to me, for no other reason than watching the balloons. So I'm travelling east on Hwy 40, happily looking up at the balloons in the sky. I make a detour to go over to my mom's to see my sister, but she said something that pissed me off, so I headed home instead. As I'm driving north on Hanley, I notice that the balloons were getting lower and lower. I turned right on Hanley and Olive St. Rd. and headed to the corner of Olive and Midland and parked "Tink". We're sitting there enjoying the balloons that hovered over head. My favorite balloon is that black one with the multicolored squares. All of a sudden, I see a Red/White MCS parked across the street (I didn't notice the hot guy driving by any means! :smile
. So after I noticed that they didn't notice me, I drove off down Midland Blvd, and I ended up on St. Charles Rock Rd. As I'm driving and still chasing balloons, I see the R/W MCS, and following close behind, a Pearl White/Black MCS. He waved me to join the chase! I thought that was so cool. I'm following people I don't even know! We bobbed and weaved all through the Overland area chasing the BMW/MINI Balloon, as I later found out. What I also found out was that the R/W MCS was the chase car for the BMW/MINI Balloon! I wish I would have gotten that guy's name but he was a MANIAC!!! He drove like speed limits and stop signs didn't exist, but I have to say, it was the most fun I've ever had since I've owned my MINI. It was just like we were in "The Italian Job" manuevering and driving at top speeds through the city. We chased that Balloon for about an hour! We finally found the Balloon on HWY 70 and Cypress Rd. with a huge hole in it. By that time, we parked along the on ramp to 70 East, behind the R/W MCS chase car. It gets better for me, believe it or not! I'm parked behind the PW/B MCS on the side of the road, watching the balloon crew fold up the balloon. As all MINI owners can attest, we get waved at from anyone. This really cute guy starts waving at me and giving me the
. So I'm waving back and reciprocating the
. So the chase car driver comes over and the hot guy comes with him. Of course, I'm having the worst hair day, as I'm not expecting to run into any hotness on the way home from work. They come over and introduce themselves. Guess who the hot guy is? It's Tony Jones from MINI of STL! How cool is that? He recognized my MINI. So the balloon guy leaves, and it's just R. (owner of the PW/B MCS), me and Tony chatting up a storm. That was THE coolest MINI event I've been apart of, and also my very first MINI event. What an initiation! I can't wait for the next MINI event that I'm actually able to attend. ( I work on Saturdays, so that sucks eggs!)
Thanks for reading this. I was too excited to keep it in.
R.- it was nice to meet you and the little "future MINI owner".
T.J. - I'm adding you to my list of "Friends in High Places"... lol

Hey Lois!
I keep looking at the calendar to see which one I can attend. I really wanted to be apart of the parade today, but I work on Saturdays. Believe me, I'm trying to get that changed. I'm hurting for social events right now. I'm really excited to be apart of the club. I'm determined to come to some of the events. You'll see me soon.
