'Missouri Southern Road Rallye', October 16th (FINAL UPDATE 10/13)

The Second Annual Missouri Southern Road Rallye

When: Saturday, October 16th

We're under 3 weeks away from this great event, and it's definitely not the one to miss! We may be one week late on the colors, as we noticed this weekend, the trees are starting to change down south. The roads have now been driven, and the path is being finalized (I'm trying to balance the twistys and the straights!). It's looking like the final destination will be Council Bluffs Recreation Area in the Mark Twain National Forest (south of Potosi). We’ll enjoy lunch and the sites, and when we grow restless of sitting still, head back along a similarly enjoyable, yet different, route. So without further adieu, here are the nitty-gritty details:

What: As developed last year, this is the closing rallye event to the St. Louis MINI Club's driving season! This year's event will follow approximately 30% of last year's greatest roads, augmented by approximately 70% new roads!

Where: St. Louis, Missouri

Starts at: The Home Depot at Watson & Lindbergh (Same Place as last year)

Starts When: 9:00AM

General Information:
So that I can have a headcount for raffle items and giveaways, and info/map packets, I need everyone that plans on attending to send an RSVP to stlminievents@sbcglobal.net. If you have already done this, or are listed on this event thread, I don't need you to do this again. So that I can get things arranged properly, I need to have the RSVP in 'hand' by October 4th at 5:00PM. All are welcome, but I can only have giveaways and raffle items for those that I know are coming. Even if you don't send an RSVP, come on down, the drive itself will be worth it!

Route Information:
A modification over last years route: The Event will start at the same location (Home Depot), but The route will START from St. Louis, namely Hwy. 141 and Meramec Station Road.

Generally, the route will be from St. Louis, south to the Potosi Area. Then a return from the Potosi Area north and East back to the St. Louis Area. Full route details will be distributed at the event.

Items to Bring:
A camera (can you have a MINI event without one?), area road map (optional, route maps and directions will be furnished), picnic lunch, and beverages. Anti-nausea pills for the navigator may be desirable; these roads can cause motion sickness!!! For those that have them, FRS radios might be a good idea.

For more information:
E-mail me at stlminievents@sbcglobal.net

FINAL DETAILS:
Motorists! Start your engines! Ok, maybe that was a little premature, but we are only 3 days away from this glorious event! So with that, I thought it prudent to send out an update to let everyone know what to expect, bring, and prepare for!

The pertinent facts:

The Starting Location: The Home Depot at Watson & Lindbergh
10890 Sunset Hills Plaza
Saint Louis, MO 63127

The Starting Time: 9:00AM

The Basic Itinerary:
8:15-8:50 Meet n' Greet
8:50-9:00 Route Review
9:00AM Depart Home Depot
9:00AM - 11:00AM St. Louis - Potosi
15min. stretch n' gas break
12:00PM Arrive at Council Bluffs Recreation Area
12:00PM - 1:00PM Lunch n' Pictures
1:00PM Depart Council Bluffs Recreation Area
1:00PM - 2:15PM Council Bluffs - Potosi
15min. stretch n' gas break
4:00PM Arrive in Pacific, MO

The final terminus has yet to be determined, but will be somewhere between Pacific and St. Louis. Ideas are appreciated.

Any Costs?:
Possible $3.00 per vehicle Day Use Fee/Entrance Fee @ Council Bluffs Rec. Area (We’re unsure as it’s out of season on Oct. 16th).
$8.00 for a commerative Missouri Southern Rallye magnetic vehicle placard (replica of the graphic on the NAM event thread (like the spring one, they are cool!).

Total Mileage: From I-44 & I-270 out and back is roughly 220 miles. Two gas stops will be available during the two stretch breaks.

Lunch: Lunch is up to you & picnic style. Bring some for you, or bring some to share!

Other Items: If you have an FRS radio (or 2), please bring them along, it makes things much easier, keeps others from getting lost, and makes it more fun. Maps are optional, route maps and directions will be provided. Motion Sickness does occur on these events, if you get it, get something to treat it.

Sponsorships: We are pleased to have MINImania & Mother's sponsor this event, which leads to the next item!

Prizes: Door Prizes: We have 10% off coupons to MINImania, and a samples bag from Mother's for those that RSVP by the Oct. 2 deadline. Any remaining ones will be offered up to the rest of the group. We also have giveaway prizes that will be given away raffle style and include:
  • (3) shirts from MINImania
  • (2) hats from MINImania
  • a car duster from MINImania
  • a $50 gift certificate from MINImania
  • a Playstation2 version of the Italian Job
This will be a great event, we have over 45 MINIs and minis signed up for this event, nearly 10 more than this spring, and 20 more than last fall! It will be a great time of great driving, conversation, and just plain fun. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Thanks,

Paul Churnock

Event Coordinator

I hope you can change it to make it a one day event for us outsiders. IE where we don't have to drive to St Louis and return to st Louis. I really liked the way we met in Cuba last year, and returned from Sullivan!

Unfortunately, you're going to have to list me under "Darn it, I have plans:" this time around. Trust me, I'd get out of it if I could.

If so I will probally bring my 14 years old daugher Chelsea, and save my marriage Any advise please let me know, other then the Winery cruise this my first cruise. Larry

The trip to Augusta last month was our first event, and we had such a good time I joined the club. Hope to enjoy many more events in the future!!!

Our new car will be on this side of the pond Oct 1st. So we should not have any problem in having our car in time. We are not members but what better way to break in the new car then meet more MINI maniacs. We will already be driving for several hours before we get there, but we wouldn't miss it. We will be going on an all day drive with the local MINI club the next day. We're going to have a long weekend in the car, but I don't mind it in a MINI. Count us in........Patrick + 1.

I just talked to a friend of mine that lives in my town. He will also be joining us in his MINI. His name is Paul, but he doesn't get on these forums.
