Amazing MINI race - interest/thoughts?

I am sure you have seen the television show, "The Amazing Race". Well I have been thinking about putting together such an event for club members. It would be VERY laborious to organize and I have some friends that would enjoy helping set it up.......so it's possible.

Just like the television show, this would involve challenges, road blocks, clues and would take us to various points of interest in the bi-state area. The whole "race" would be a day long event, beginning with breakfast (starting point) and ending with a bar-b-que.

Obviously, we can't really have a "race!" All of the participants would gather sealed envelopes after the successful completion of a task. These envelopes and the contents will verify that you have completed the "race" and enable a winner to be identified!

Everyone would buy into the race ($20) and the winner would get the total buy in amount awarded at the bar-b-que! If there are 15 participants, that would be $300 modification money for your MINI!

So what are the thoughts? It would be a good amount of work, however I have some friends that are eager to help me organize it. They have done one of these before and say it is a HOOT!

I live with this very competitive Amazing Race watcher Now I'm not overly competitive, nor could I really give a hoot about Amazing Race

But this sounds like a really fun event, and I would like to help out. Keep me posted.

I will Mark! The bad part about helping is, you will not be able to participate in the race. All participants have to be equal, in that none of them can know what tasks / objectives await. In fact, players are prohibited from bringing laptops, GPS units or using their smart phones (honor system with that one).

It is fun if you think about it! I picture a couple reading the instructions on a task they just picked up and the person driving spots a mini going the opposite direction! Which one is going the wrong way?

Well like I said, I'm not overly competitive, but I do like being in charge

Which one is going in the right direction? Well, neither maybe. Both, just in opposite directions. One of them, till they get lost, and the other takes the lead.

Sounds like fun, I'd try and come down for that. I look forward to more details and date.

WOW!

That would be great!

Now I can't wait to see these two friends of mine that put one of these on before! They will get all excited with the notion of people coming from Chicago to play along!

Just as soon as the holidays pass and I can obsess about something new, the planning will begin! I think this would be a hoot!! As you can well imagine, something like this will be a handful to put together, however there is nothing I enjoy more than the chance to really screw something up!

Nah......

I think I can pull this off, and everyone will have a blast. I will not be able to participate, but I will have alot of energy stored up for the gathering and BBQ!

We are almost out of the "holiday" woods and then I will start the actual initial planning stage. I have a couple GREAT volunteers that are going to help me with the set-up. As AutoXcooper has expressed interest from Chicago, this could be a big deal if it is a Bi-State event!! If that IS the case, the winner could walk away with a lot more than I first expected!!!

QUESTION: I know the posted events that are pending / posted in the events section, but in addition to that, are there any of you that are interested in participating but have a weekend that would prohibit you from doing so? Post or email me with those dates and I will try to work that in! Period I am thinking is someplace within April - June (whole 90 day period).

How about the locals planning 10 events. Each locol (crazy person) gets a pass on their event. Newcomeres or outsiders get a free pass on 1 event determined by random. This way we can help plan and still play. TOPLABDOG and Chriv

TOPLADOG & Chriv,

I will meet you in the middle here. Give me an idea and I will go with it. I don't want to start keeping track of countless suggested challenges and who proposed them and should be excluded. This is going to be enough work as it is! Kill Me!

For example, if you want something to take the group to Busch Stadium or the Arch, say so. If any of you would like this event to take us in the direction of a specific venue, name it. I will not disclose which venues are going to be involved, and you will only know as the race unfolds on race day!

Let's get ready to.......

The idea waas to give you a little help without losing out on the fun. Individuals can PM you clues to get racers to one destination in Saint Louis and puzzles they have to solve to get "points". If a number of us do this you can take the pieces and put together the whole race.

Count Me In

Should be a lot of fun, we are tied up most of April and all of May. So many trips, so little time.

Just a thought

If you pull this off, I think the prize money should be a 50/50 split. 50% to the winner and 50% to BACKSTOPPERS.

Zinful,

The limited input I received regarding a time to have it has indicated that June / July would be best. Again, very limited input. Still in the planning stage. Your idea of a 50/50 is a nice one! I appreciate your way of thinking. I know several of those who are no longer with us.

I will keep you posted.

Bull Run

There is another show on speed channel called "BULL RUN" that is pretty neat. Something like that on a smaller scale would be pretty neat to do.

We should have a stop where the new Clydesdale is so all the mini Coopers can get acquainted. (The new colt's name is Cooper!)
