Santa Barbara Road Rally

Anyone here do Road Rallyes?

Me and SuperGimp did the one in Santa Barbara today (with our own Navigators). Man, it was tough. But I had a great time, and my Mighty MINI, Camel, did me proud, as always.

It was a gruelling 6 hour rally through the hills and valleys of Santa Barbara. I dont think I'll ever look at SB Road signs in a nice way ever again. F U Bates ROAD!

But I still had fun, especially when I had to pass non-rally cars on 9 foot wide roads, EEEK, Old Volvoes SUCK too.

The roads are so pretty, especially the small ones that are under tree canopy, and near caves and streams, .

I highly reccommend that you guys attempt Road Rallys like these at least ONCE in your lives. But I have to warn you, it's not for the weak.

I managed 2nd in class, not too shabby, if I must say so myself. Thanks to my Navigator Jen, and of course, my beloved Camel!

Wet Streams

My Mighty Camel

Just give me the prize...

First Loser... but I'll take it!

Hey Congrats to you and your navigator,
Yeah, I've always had an interest in going to a rally race sometime, how often do they hold those up there in Santa Barbara? are there any others coming soon in the area (Santa Barbara, Ventura, or L.A. Counties)?
Good Pictures by the way...

Hey thanks!

This was my first one, but yeah, they have a few rallys every couple of months or so I guess. THere was a 12 hour one coming up at the end of May, from 7pm - 7am, a little too much for me though.

Here is a link to the ITN website.

These are the guys that organise everything. I will post here and also send you a PM for any future Rallys.

I always new you were a first place loser, Matt

Wanted to do this run, but went up to Sausalito/San Francisco for the BSSP run. What a blast we had... Met some new friends with NorCal and REME MINI's....

Great Time, but I am NOT stealing your post....

When it comes to loosing, your the best!

Does Supergimp by any chance have Knievel-style stripes? I saw one heading up the San Marcos pass yesterday as I was driving down into S.B. (in the wife's T-reg). That third pic down looks suspiciously like the entrance to the Neverland Ranch, btw.

First, I've gotta give a big "Yay! Matt and Jen" for doing so well in the Rally. Supergimp aka "MINI Knievel" has the Evel Knievel tribute MINI.

Did you ever blow bubbles when you were a kid?

Good eye, DialM. Camelpilot accompanied Supergimp when he dropped off his navigator back home at the Neverland Ranch right after the Rally. Supergimp kept telling us about his "secret weapon" that would win him the rally. I guess Bubbles the monkey was a bad choice for a navigator, but at least he kept Supergimp's hair nit-free throughout the day.

heheheh, if that is Neverland ranch, then I definitely didnt know it at the time I took the pic... I just thought to myself it was a nice place to take a picture of meh Camel.

And yes, supergimp is the driver of MINI Knievel, one of the sweetest looking MCSs in Socal.

Aww shucks.

It was a great day. I little grueling at times. Good job Matt and Jen. I had some really great times, but the penalty for missing a checkpoint is harsh. My only recommendation is to make sure your navigator is as enthusiastic as you are, and doesn't have a propensity to get carsick.
