Service at South Bay Mini?
How is the service department at South Bay Mini in Torrance. I have heard good things about them. My MCS is getting close to its 10k mile service. Is there a dealer rating section on this site?
Thanks,
Shawn
Thanks,

The service dept is OK I guess. I recently took it in to check on my SES, passenger door panel rattling, and passenger A-pillar squeaking. The turn-around time is 6 hours so I got my car back the same day. I like their selection of rental cars though, I got to choose between a MC, 325i, or X3 3.0. I chose the X3 and it was fun driving it like I stole it.

I was thinking loaner... or free rental.Anycase how much does South Bay charge? $50? $65?

I had a couple of things fixed on my MINI at South Bay and each time my rental was a loaner car, meaning free. Those guys were really nice, although they can't figure out why my NAV system is now miscalibrated by about 100 feet after upgrading the software.
I just read this thread.
FYI, I bought my MCS at Long Beach MINI, and when I took it in for service at South Bay MINI, they gave me a loaner (no charge), I just had to make an appointment for the service. I didn't ask what my choices were, but they asked if an X3 was fine, and I said yes. It is an Enterprise location in the dealer, where the dealer pays for the loaner.
They weren't perfect, but I thought they did a good job. They took care of a speaker problem (rattle), did a oil change, and a couple of other small things. I thought their price to activate my alarm was too high, but I was otherwise happy, and the loaner process was very smooth and simple. I like them MUCH more than the Long Beach MINI service department (although it's been a while since I have been there).

In the last few weeks my 03 MCS has spend a good amount of time at SB Mini. I first brought it in with a clutch issue at 18,000 miles. The clutch was making a slipping/griding sound when engaging at low RPM. Even though they didn't get to fixing my car the first day, they gave me a free loaner. After spending about a day on the car, the put in a request for a Mini technical rep to take a look at the car and so I had to bring the car back about a week later. After 2 more days of evaluating the problem, they put in a request to replace the whole clutch at only 18,000 miles! But they have been very nice in keeping me updated with their progress and giving me a nice '05 X3 3.0 loaner car. I'll post again when I get my MCS back in a few days with the new clutch!

Hey Nicole,
I'm just on the other side of Jefferson (Near Marina del Rey/Culver City) from you. I'm an MC, actually I have a lot of Non-S friends around. We can ALL get together and play!
I've had good experience at SouthBay MINI for service. Their parts department knowledge left a lot to be desired, nothing like Long Beach MINI, but the service was good, and I got a free loaner---wasn't BMW though--I can't remember off hand, but think it might have been a Kia, no wait, that was NA--my last loaner was a Minivan!

I've been planning on going to something to meet other MINI owners at some point, I'll try to come to the next thing that happens during the summer (the fall and spring periods are very busy for me right now).

Richard, I hope to see you around some day. I'm in and around Culver City and the Marina a lot.

Same here! I'm also the prez and founder of c3 (Cooper Club for Charities), and our next event is on June 18. Info at http://c3club.org
Come on over if you want to meet other MINI owners from the area and learn how to professionally detail your car, or just have others do it for you.
We're sponsored by Meguiars. You can't miss my MC, although I'm usually driving quite fast!

I took Camel into South Bay MINI for a paid service (I change at every 5k), it was my first time there, and my first time not taking it to Long Beach MINI (whose service has deteriorated rapidly I might add).
Despite being charged 95 bucks for an effing oil change (ouch) everything else was pretty good. Their SA's definitley better than Long Beach, their dealership is brand spanking new, they have wi-fi, a cafeteria, etc it really is a top notch dealership.
I'm definitely taking Camel there from now on for warranty stuff. But I think I will change my own oil from now on, lol.
