This thread originally began back in 2002. The people posting were, in actuality, getting owners of the New MINI together for what would turn out to be SCMM.
That's not to say we can't get something going for August 2005! It could be on August 19th, a Friday. We could call it Full Moon MINI/Mini Madness. Imagine crazy clusters of cool clown cars clogging up Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County.

Let's wait and see where this goes.
Oops. Shoulda read more carefully. One reason I am getting a MINI is so that my drives to LA would be more enjoyable (at least not so tortured). Huntington Beach is delightful. A fun venu for MINIs. I look forward to further posts. Thanks for the clarification.

So is it the 19th?
Is this going to be the evening? Maybe Saturday the 20th would be better?
Do we have a meeting place yet? I can do some scouting this week and post some suggestions. I live in South OC, but used to live in HB and know of a couple of nice places to meet.
I think it would be great to have a get together in the OC.

Wow, this is really taking on a life of its own!
Saturday the 20th is cool with me. (I have all summer off.)
AC, of course you can go, this is open to all.
Venues? Huntington State rather than city beach. Or how about Bolsa Chica?

I was thinking more along the lines of meeting at a parking lot on Beach Blvd, just up from PCH and then going from there. At the corner of Adams and Beach is a large shopping center with a very large parking lot, we could meet there. There are places to eat there and it would be a good starting point for a drive.
Another cool thing . . .
If we get there early enough, we can always drop by the Donut Derelicts meet at the corner of Adams and Magnolia. If anyone doesn't know about this group, they are a bunch of car nuts who drop by the donut shop at that location and show there old hot rods off. It's an informal ting, but always a crowd draw.
It might be sort of cool to show up with a bunch of MINIs. We would have to go a little earlier though. Let me know. . . .

For those who can't wait 'til August ... How'bout the end of this month, which means Memorial Day
I know that they have a big event for Scooter riders called Orange Crush (May 27th-30th). They have it every year, it's a big thing like the Dragon or AMVIV thingy. We can attach a good old red-white-blue on the antenna
Here's their schedule:
Friday
6pm to 7:30pm meet at Cafe Ruba in Costa Mesa
- 7:30pm ride leaves for Long Beach and Alex's Nightclub
for evening entertainment. Headlining band is the D-Strutters.
Saturday
10am to 11am meet at Cafe Ruba in Costa Mesa
11am ride leaves for Hell's Kitchen on Ortega Highway.
for lunch and break. Then ride to the Swallow's Inn in San Juan Capistrano
for late night festivities - Bands that are playing are Putnam Hall,
Upsteady's, Wayside Projector, and a Magic Show.
Sunday
10am to 11am meet at The Scooter Shop in Orange. Mick is
providing coffee and donuts. 11am ride leaves for the Colorado Lagoon
in Long Beach for Gymkhana and Games and raffle and free
BBQ Lunch. Then ride to Dipiazza's in Long Beach for dinner and
music (Gymkhana will be held by the Phonies and Games
will be held by the Stingers) (BBQ donated by the Diablos)
Monday
Memorial Day. 10am to 11am meet at Cafe Ruba in Costa Mesa
11am ride leaves for the coast and then inland for farewell
BBQ at Todd's House. (Ride will be led by Area 51 Scooter Club)
Note: schedule taken from Hard Pack Scooter Club. I know Mick, the guy at Scooter Shop in Orange. He's kool!

I'm still in, but the venue will need to be established before most people actually sign on. We need a place that can accomodate a lot of vehicles, that's decent to hang at for a couple of hours, but that isn't crazy busy. Personally, I think trying to squeeze a bunch vehicles into a So. Cal. public beach on a summer weekend is going to be a little difficult. Getting to all park next to each other will be even more difficult...
A coffee shop or the like--as someone mentioned Cafe Ruba--is a good idea. Cafe' Ruba doesn't have a whole lot of parking though, just one strip of spots. I'll put my thinking cap on. Anyone have any other coffee shop--or just other--suggestions?

Guys, let's not forget the Huntington Beach Concours car show at Huntington Beach Central Park on June 5th. MINI is one of the featured marquees this year so we are hoping for a good turnout. If you are not going to enter a car, please come by to support me (and the few dozen that do enter)

As far as meeting at the Donut Derelicts, I go there once a while but it is primarily American cars (hotrods) and it is very hard to get parking there unless you come very early - like 7am. It ends at 9:00. Another nice car show is the Crystal Cove car show in Newport Beach. It is about 5 miles south of Huntington Beach and there is a much better display of cars, including non-yank iron.
But that is another early-riser thing - if you’re not in line to get in before 7am, fuhgidaboudit. Another alternative is to meet at the parking lot of my office. It is very centrally located - on the corner of Beach and Warner, just off the 405 freeway. I’ve got lots of parking and bathrooms. There is also a Starbuck’s next door. Since it’s a very large private parking lot that we will have to ourselves, we can all park together with no door dings to worry about!

How 'bout Peet's Coffee at the Bristol Farms marketplace next to the library on the corner of PCH and Avocado in Newport Beach? It has a HUGE parking lot, is easy to find, has coffee, and is near the beach. I know a lot of cyclists meet there in the AM hours for their rides, etc. I think this'd be a pretty cool spot. Kind of like a Crystal Cove thing, but not as far and not as crowded.
