Target Smart Car Tour - Los Angeles Drivers Needed
We are excited to introduce the Target National Smart Car Tour throughout the United States in 2004! In fact, we're looking to hire experienced drivers to participate in the upcoming promotional tour dates in the Los Angeles area this June. Event dates are currently set for Sunday, June 13, Friday June 25 & Saturday June 26th.
We would love to have Smart Car enthusiasts with small vehicle driving experience take part in this unique opportunity. Four (4) drivers are needed for each date to motor the branded Smart ForTwo and Smart ForTwo Cabrios as a unit to create a moving billboard for Target Stores in popular Los Angeles areas. In addition, the Bullseyed Smart Cars will be positioned on-site to support exclusive Target Special Events.
Positions are available for experienced Smart Car drivers for any of the following dates: Sunday, June 13, Friday June 25 & Saturday June 26th
Exact times and locations are to be confirmed, areas may include:
Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Melrose Avenue, Hollywood Boulevard, Mann's Chinese Theater, El Capitan, Egyptian Theater, 3rd Street Promenade
Note each day of participation will consist of six hours with payment at $25 per hour. To apply for a position on the crew, please have any interested driver contact sgreanias@legacymp.com to receive a Driver Agreement with tour details and expectations. Thanks! Stacy

Hey Richard! I tried to send you a PM but your box is FULL!
I noticed that you had signed up for the Smart car drive. I was thinking about it too...What day are you going to do? I was shooting for the 26th. I think it would be more fun if we were out with some people we knew.
I hope all is well and see ya soon!

PS - How's baby?!!!

Oh man, I just accidentally erased my message to you. I deleted my PM box. Thanks! Whoops.
I signed up for all the days, since my schedule is pretty open! I'm going to PM you a link to some pics of Lukas. But I'm going to post one here. It's when I told Lukas that this MINI will be his when he's old enough to drive. (he's only 5 weeks)
I wonder if the Smart Car is baby friendly????

I did this promotion over the Memorial Day weekend.
Great fun and your MINI will seem like a Ferrari Enzo after driving the Smarts.

ps. I think there is just enough room in the trunk for a baby. No back seats!

. A neighbor of mine had one on loan a few months back. They really are rather tiny. Ought to be an experience!
Looking forward to it!

Everyone that has replied to me, I've notified Stacy that you have contacted them. She confirmed she got your info. I've already signed and sent all the paperwork back, so hopefully I'm good to go. We shall see. Lots of fun people are signing up--I've referred atleast 6 people so far.

Today we drove the Smart Cars to the event location, ready for Sunday morning. The Smart Car is a fun car, but there isn't much top end, the seats are marginally comfortable, and the overall build quality is much lower than the MINI. In fact, after being with the Smart Car for a day, my MINI felt both like a luxury and performance car!
I drove a convertible which had a CVT 6 speed. On the freeways, I found putting it in semi automatic mode made the drive much more peppier. In automatic mode it wanted to be in 6th gear or a gear higher than I wanted to be in. In fact, cruising around 60mph, then stepping on the gas, seemed to make the car bog down. So I preferred driving in 5th, so stepping on the gas actually made me accelerate!
Here are some pics from our drive today:

Nice pics. Hope you are having fun driving them, I know I did. You are right about how it feels to get back into the MINI.
They don't actually have CVT transmissions but 6-speed "steptronic" type shifters. (as a CVT owner, I have to keep that straight!
)
Did you guys figure out how to get the top and side rails completely off the cabrios? It took us a while to figure it all out since the manuals are in German.
It's an interesting experience wouldn't you say?

Thanks! Oh the technical guy said they were cvt. I didn't verify.
Re: Top rails
yeah it took a little doing, but we got it eventually
re: experience
definitely a worthwhile thing to do, if only to convince myself what a great car the MINI is!!!
Tomorrow is the real event, so we will be mostly acting as guardians, and not driving. It's going to be a long day!

Hi Dominic,
I drove white Smart Car, didn't have paddle
but others had paddles.
Driving was just like MINI's CVT, just put shifter to drive, hit switch to make it Auto mode, then you can just click to shift up/down.
I felt similar to MINI CVT shifting while driving Smart Car on freeway.
Small gas engine pulls little bugger over 110km on 405 freeway
Interior was pretty generic, tipical Euro interior. Only complain I had was air was not working, with Red Jumpsuit on it was HOT.

New Video Clip
Well Saturday was the last day of the Target Smart Car Tour and it ended at the Los Angeles Film Festival. We had a fantastic crew that worked hard over the past 2 weeks. Thanks to everyone that helped make this a success for both Target and Stacy G. over at Legacy Marketing. I'm so glad I got to participate and help organize.

Also here's a little snapshot of Friday evening as we drove around Los Angeles. The video has been sped up, and the music is pretty crummy, but the footage looks great! This was shot using my new VacuCam (http://www.Vacucam.com) in a 2 camera configuration.
