I know I'm not the first person in the San Diego area to need a windshield replaced due to a crack, does anyone have advice on reasonably priced service and I'm not talking about the dealer charging $300.00 labor! Help!!

Sorry to hear this! If it is a real stress crack, put some clear tape over it right away, to avoid adding any pitting near it. The warranty approval guys will almost certainly reject it if even the TINIEST pit is anywhere associated with it. If you think you have a good shot at a warranty issue, go for that first. Otherwise, try a reputable glass installer here in SD. I have heard good things from Smokey on the various boards regarding the thickness of PPG, I believe, you can check the various threads for this. Check with the glass people to make sure they can do a correct install - don't want any problems later. I actually went to Long Beach MINI, and they were pretty reasonable. Good Luck -

sorry to hear about the front screen, but is that a golf coarse behind you?
SD area--perhaps, Torry Pines?

Asaulo 1,

Good call, that is Eastlake G.C.

Vanwall,

Appreciate the input, problem is a small pebble was the culprit causing the initial pit that led to the existing ever-growing crack, going to pick up the windshield at the dealer next week and hope to have an installer identified by then.

Minispider - Thanks!

Kevin

Hello MINIclo,

Appreciate the feedback, I've got Randy on my mind for Friday (3:30 yippie!) but starting next week I'm going to nail down an installer, looks as if LB Mini will be a nice fallback as it's only a couple of hours from here if I can't find a trustworthy and viable local option.

Happy Motoring,
Kevin

Ok, after a little research the deal is: Safety Glass, they come to your house and are nearly $100.00 less than competitors and half the price of the dealer. Glass, and your place instlled for $251.63, Brehct wanted more than that just for labor!

Just keep an eye on them. I had an installer come to my place of work, to do a windshield on a different car. Though I had told them the year, make and model, I had to pay extra for some special molding that they claimed they didn't know about until they saw the car. Plus, they ruined my wiper stops.

Beautiful MINI! Love those wheels!

All,

To put this to bed, installer took about an hour and did an outstanding job, highly recommend them. Now, I must back off of traffic to keep the chips to a minimum....yeah, figure those odds!
