You want how much for an oil service?!?

Since my 05 needs an oil service and I wanted to drive an 07 i tought I would go ahead and pay some extra, get my oil change done at a dealer and kill 2 birds with one stone. Santa Ana Mini wanted $170 claiming: Well, its a BMW. Irvine Mini, who had given me excellent wrranty service in the past, wanted $273!!! Needles to say I will be going to an independent and not driving an 07 any time soon.

FWIW,
If they're like my dealer, there is an 'oil change' and an 'oil service'. The 'oil service' includes replacing the cabin filter and a checking a few items (I don't recall which ones.)
Oil Change - $89.95
Oil Service - $210.00 (referred to as a 'minor service')

The last time I wrote the dreaded check, just before AMVIV, our dealership charged $130 for oil change, and $340 for the oil service.

They were nice enough to discount the oil change (x2 - we're a mutli-MINI family) by $20 each. Neither of us were near our next "service date/mileage", so we paid cold hard cash.

Ohhhh yesssiireee, I'll be learning to change my own oil!

It's easy to change the oil. It's the filter that's the hard part.

-oil filter $9
-5qts Mobil 1 $25
-Charge for the lift $5
Being active duty in the navy and having access to the lift-PRICELESS

I really do like having the auto hobby shop. I just did some work for a friend on a R32. Total cost around $100 for lift time, haldex fluid, diff fluid, re-lube rear sway bar, install VF tranny mount, Rear subframe brace and a couple of other things. The fluid services at the dealer alone would have been around $500-$600.

i agree with duck, i do the same thing since im active navy as well, if your going to get a filter get the Wix Goldline filters(reinforced ends and less likely to collapse)

If you just want to flush the coolant $75. Thats for parts and labor. We use OEM MINI COOLANT.

Just out of curiosity.. is it a flush? with a machine or just a drain and fill?

I was told I was getting a flush here in Canada, and it was a drain and fill.

I figured I would pay for something since I was there on warranty issue. but turns out the flush I paid for, was a drain and fill..

my family owns 2 Midas shops, so I can have all that done.

BTW, here in Canada, the LOF would be 74.95 + tax, and every 5th oil change is free, and we do a courtesy inspection of the car as well. That is with a WIX filter and Castrol 5w30 syntec.

Other places are similar.

If your going to somewhere other then the dealer, go to a reputable place. Avoid a quick lube IMO

Yea its just a drain fill and bleed. use the proper coolant I am seeing mor wand more w/p failures that are resulting in s/c failures.

Yea Canada's cool with stuff like that I was there last year picking up a Lancia Integrale.

Thanks,
Danny D
