OT: Free to a Good Home
one sweet great dane... ("Belly" or "Belle")19 mos. old, black with white feet/chest. 185 lbs currently. spayed, house-trained, crate-trained and knows a few lame tricks
good with kids and other dogs. never had any health problems, and her bloodlines are great. she's AKC registered.
aaand a beagle. ("Hammy") he'll be 3 in september. he's nuetered but a bit feisty with other dogs at first, and is fairly energetic and requires a good amount of exercise. he is white with tan markings, about 26 lbs right now but needs to be about 22... heh. also house- and crate-trained, and good with kids but can get a little out of control with the licking. he's always been in good health but to be honest i don't know his bloodlines, he was a pet-store puppy on clearance LOL
i have to find a new home for these 2 sweeties as i foresee a cross-country move soon. unfortunately i will have niether the space or the time to give them the care they need/deserve.

Aww man, I wish I could help. I have two Great danes now, but not sure if I could take two more. I have too many animals as it is three horses, one mule, two great danes, one cocker (daughters), and one english pointer (sons). We were looking a couple of years ago, but not right now. Our oldest dane , Moris, has been having all kinds of health problems and will be lucky to make it another year. He is a merril (sp?) and has immune deficency, and wobblers. Great dog though. With all the problems he has had it is truely heartbreaking to watch, and we are not sure if we could do it again. I'll mention your dogs to my wife and a few other people, and try to help out.

oh yeah, and it's only 1 great dane, does that make it a little easier?
Aparently I can't comprehend what I read early in the morning. For some reason I read two danes
.
Couple questions: are you trying/ hoping Belle and Hammy together?
Could you post some more pics of Belle?
Belle's height (not important just curious)
And if we did decide to gice Belle a new home, how would you want to arrange pick-up? Meet in the middle? or something like that? I think Mesa is 9 or so hrs from here (but not to sure on that).
I don't want to get your hopes up, but my wife and I have a soft spot for danes and if possible will try to help out. We have 3/4 arce with large a large yard that backs up to forest service land. The dogs have there own yard with access to the garage, for cold winter days, and warm summer days. Actual twin matresses (sp?) inside and outside the garage so they can be comfy.
If we're home the spend most of the time inside, and of course they sleep inside.
Anyway, keep me posted and we'll try to figure out if its possible for us.

xsmini,
i understand that taking on two dogs at once is quite a task, therefore i am OK with belly & hammy living in different new homes. i know they will adapt wonderfully given the right situations.
belle is 34" high at her back/shoulders area. now put the HUGE great dane head on that and you've got one big dog. she is fairly thin though for a great dane, she is technically still a puppy and hasn't filled out yet. i'll try to get some more pics soon but my digital camera is MISSING grrrrr
i'd be willing to meet you halfway, provided that happens before july 11th, because that's when i'll be moving. i'd have to rent a truck to haul both her and her crate (aka the WALK-IN CLOSET) but i'm sure we could get it done if need be.
thanks for your replys, and your home sounds like a place any great dane would love

rescue group
Have you considered this? or one like it?

It is a good place for dogs. They are placed in good homes. I got my Golden Retriever from a rescue group 10 years ago.

I'm glad to hear that it worked out. I was going to suggest a rescue too - better for a dog to be moved around in foster homes and the new owner's screened then other places a free dog can find themselves. (I understand, that among other bad places free/cheap pets can end up directly or indirectly is used for research
)
My father in law does Airdale Rescue. Since he's very particular about the "new owners" of his placements, he often ends up housing the dogs himself. He currently has only one dog, but had two last week. Hopefully you find a great home for your dogs. If they were mine, I would have a hard time with it too (as I'm sure you are).
I've always loved Great Danes and Beagles, however, we have three pets right now and that's our capacity!
