The 12 Miles of Terror
OK gang.... I am up for anything pertaining to this "run". Lets pass the hat, buy some VHF radios (one for each end of the run) and rip it up.
Dominic, if you want to go up and do a route "map" I am in. I will even hold the clicker.
Hafid..... does your Nav System give good detail of the raod??
Should we try to "fix" the "Evil Dip" with some quick-set concrete??
How much are staging lights and electronic timers/transponders (just kidding)

The evil dip is actually where the asphalt has buckled against the concrete used for the washes. Being in a classic I got a better look at the road.

I also would like to put my 2 cents as far as the name. The road had more of a rollercoaster feel to it for me. You climb up the first hill and "oh S*** yeah" down you go. I would prefer to refer to it as the Terror Hwy Rollercoaster.

Bill.... do the radios cover 12 miles?????? It is my understanding a radio would be at the Start and at the End of "The 12 Miles"

I think we need a third radio for in the in-car co-pilot. We need notification of any (if any since this road is so dead) traffic or police. I'm putting in a call to the film commission to see if we can shut this road down for a day tomorrow. See what's invovled. I'm just curious more than anything...it may be worth it, it may not be.
For kicks you can take this tour on Mapquest.
Use the highest magnification in Big Map mode and toggle between satellite view and street map view.
The over head street map doesn't do the route justice, it's the detail photo view that shows the elevation changes and wash crossings.
Cool beans!

So, if it's 5 miles, we'll need a mid point person...or maybe two to change between channels and relay messages back and forth....either way, we'll figure something out.
Mike - I'll have to check out the mapquest tour, thanks man!

Hafid... my offer stands, I will buy a in-car mounting bracket if required. They are made for MINI's and not expensive. I don't have a video camera but I sure someone does.
How do we address the "Evil Dip" (or does it matter)????? Bill.... you got a close up any ideas???? I would hate to crack a wheel.

Assembled this quick collage, NOT at the highest magnification but still fun.
This is no Tail of the Dragon maybe but we can call it our own patch of roller coaster!

We need to do a prelim on the dip. I remember that it was pretty wicked in a classic with only 10" wheels. I thought I damaged the front of barney's Mini. Pulled over and inspected the undercarriage. everything was fine. Now that pat has his mini home after the cattle guard. I'm amazed that Barney's survived the run.

Haf......Two (2) camera mounts are on order. More is always better.
They mount under the headrest. I figure one in a lead car.... one in the following car may make for some fun action shots. Easy to install so we can move them from car to car.
I also can get a video camera. That means we would need one more for "dual in-car" shots.
