Greetings,
I know several Florida MINI owners and MCO posters are interested in creating our own autocross series or participating with other clubs (ie: Miatas) or via groups like the SCCA. I would like to get a list of who is interested with some email addresses to begin some communications and get preliminary organization going.
Nobull60, 2minis are definitely interested - and I believe minicoopersgirl and orbhot are also itching to put the pedal to the metal.
If you're serious drop me a note with your email address  ! LETS MOTOR around the cones Who is the fastest in MINI Florida land ??
Best Regards,
Ron

Sure!
As long as it doesn't interfer with my SCCA races.

I am still trying to get with my police friend who teaches at BCC Police Academy in Davie to find out if we can use the track they have. I know one thing for sure though no matter where we go we will need to have insurance, timing equipment, and lots of help organizing. I am not sure if we went to an established track if we need insurance or the timing equipment. They might have the equipment but I think that Aimee would be the one to ask since she is the local expert on track racing. Well at Tampa I am hoping to get more people involved and more information. Lets make this happen as we had a blast at SpringThing auto-xing.

Auto Cross how to-

Found this site with lots of info. Also e-mailed the Gulfcoast club that Minimad linked. I think maybe we can hook up with them and get some more experience before we try to tackle this blind. Any thoughts?? Or does anyone have the know how to run an Autocross? Please let us know as this is a great way to enjoy the MINI.

Bruce,
Thanks for the link. I know you can buy timing equipment through ads in GrassRoots Motorsports classifieds. I agree with running some events with established organizations. Besides, MINIs have the reputation for being faster than the other cars in our classes ! I checked out the group (Martin Sports Car Club) that autocrosses in Palm Bay north of Vero and I'm planning on attending their next meet.
The Florida MINIs will get this thing going in the right direction with a little experience !
Thanks,
Ron

Hey Ron,
Sounds goog to me. I doubt if I'll get into this as seriously as some of those awesome Sunriders drivers, but It would be nice to attend some informal autocross events now and then like the one at the Spring Thing.
You can PM me or send me email (address is avaialble on my website).

Thanks Vince,
I knew you were having a great time traversing the cones at Spring Thing. Thanks for your support. I don't want to get too regimented with this thing !
As a group we will keep in touch about events and locations. It was great to meet you and Jessica and the DS/W MINI.
Best Regards,
Ron

Thanks Mike,
The SunRiders Miata club sure did put on a good show during our Spring Thing!
I would like to attend again, so I'm looking at their schedule. For you and the MINIs on the west coast its a great venue. Its a little hike from Stuart and Lauderdale but definitely worth the drive.
Congrats again on your very fast runs - showing the host Miatas how its done! It was great meeting you and Anita - look forward to more MINI fun !!!!
Mike, what happened to your banner?? We miss the monkeys !!
Best Regards,
Ron

I'd appreciate any/everyone keeping me informed of any autocross activities. Nothing better than flogging your fun car now and then ... especially with others of like mind. I'm in.

Ron.

I met a guy at the Lauderdale MINI party this weekend and he is an avid autocrosser with the Porsche club. He drives a MINI and he told me that they race every month at the Dania Jai Lie parking lot. He said that everyone is welcome and all we need to do is show up and pay. You will need your own helmet. I am going to speak with him more this month and try to get the dates and times. Also looking for a web site but have not found it yet. I think it is the Porsche/BMWOwners Group or something like that. If you find it let me know. Bruce

Greetings mbryon !!!

Welcome to MCO!! Thanks for your interest in autocrossing. This thread was started with the idea of polling how many people would be interested in some competition through the cones.
This weekend I hope to post a schedule of established autocrosses happening throughout FL. Several people have expressed an interest in being able to host an autcross as a MINI Community event - and invite other intersted parties to join.
As this is an all volunteer effort things never happen as fast as we all would like. However, I beleive with a little direction we can get started by attending other established events. Hope this helps as an update for those interested.
I hope to make it to the Ferman celebration Saturday but my work schedule is still up in the air!?!? If I can't make it maybe Bruce and Mike can share some ideas!
Hope to be there!!
Best Regards,
Ron

Auto Cross at Gulfstream Race Track

Ron, I found this in a thread earlier today. It sounds pretty good to me. I did go in the site but while I was signing up I could not get through to the third step in the registration process. I e-mailed them but nothing yet. There is a 800 toll free number to contact them. I will try again tomorrow. I picked the date of 5/31 and the number 10 time frame. Go to the site and it will make more sence. The times are from 9:00am till 12:40 for the track times. Any questions just let me know and if you can get past step three let me know. I think the cost is $39.00 for the day. Give me your opinion and what you think of this.
