South Florida Autocross
To everyone that wants to really find out just how exceptional the handling of your mini is.
I just found out that the ER autocross club will be holding an event on June 8, and I wanted to get the info out to those that would be interested.
The event will be held at MetroZoo in south-west miami.
Here is a link to the clubs web page http://autox.carlc.com/ , just go to the calender for more event dates

I looked into this, also, and got an email saying this w/e was cancelled and the 29th is the next event.
94, I looked for you at the Mazda event, but didn't see any other MINI's in the parking lot. Were you there Sunday? At one of the practice venues, I met a nice guy from the ER Club, last name something like Hollester (sp), his badge said PRO. He AutoX's a Cooper S.
Bruce, my son Josh and I had a great time. The Index was 33.444. I had a best time of 39.221. Equaled 436 points. Good enough for #24 in my age group (way old), plus beat Josh! All in all, a good day for a beginner...lol.
Time & Budget will limit my AutoXng, but now I really want to exercise my Cooper even if it has to be "as is". Wonder if they have a Showroom Stock class..lol. I am going to try to make the 29th. Hope to see ya'll there.

Bruce,
Yes I was a ER club member last year, and I ran the whole season last year. Most of the events were held at MetroZoo.
The site used is one of the front parking areas, and it is quite large. It is easily 2-3 times the size of the hollywood site that tha porsche club used for their last event.
The surface is pretty good, it can be a little slick but its not bad. The size of the site does allow for some really good courses, with some faster parts and some slower more technical area.
CRC,
I was there Sunday morning, and only did OK. Running the practices in stock cars, then trying to compete in a modified car was throwing me off. I felt like the stock cars actually handled better, they leaned more but were more predictable.
The guy you spoke to might have been Bruce Hollander, he's in his 50's and drives a red Cooper S. He did really well, I think he made the top 10.
You can run you cooper in H-stock which is for basically stock cars, but you are allowed to use R-compound tire. You should be able to be competative in H-stock without having to change anything. I would recommend that you run with the street tires to get started, as they will let you work on you driving. You will wear the tires quicker than if you didn't run, but it is definetly worth it.
If you have runflat, I would have to really think about getting different tires. The main reason is that the runflats are very expensive if you need to replace them. If you do get different tires I would recommend the Falken Azenis Sports, these are probably the best tires for the money you can buy.

Well the Autocross at Metro Zoo ran last weekend, and there were (6) mini's in attendance.
The course was made up of mostly slaloms and sweepers. Mini's Love Slaloms and works well on sweepers.
The group did pretty well finishing in the following places.
G- Stock
1st, 10th, and 12th
H-Stock
1st, and 2nd
STX
1st
There is another event scheduled for July 13.
It would be really cool to get everyone to show up at this event and show the riceboy there tail lights.
Hope to see you at the next event.
