I was quoted $2295 at south bay mini, seems kind of high...

Yes. Extended warranties and service contracts make the people selling them money. Smart shoppers just say NO. In fact I would decline the "free" 3yr 36K miles warranty had it been presented as an option. It certainly is added onto the base price and not "free".

Oil Change 1 Year or CBS
Brake Fluid 2 Years or CBS
Micro-Filter 2 Years
Air Filter 2 Years or Every 2nd Oil Change or CBS
Tires 6 Years
Spark Plugs 60K
Transmission Service 100K
Oxygen Sensor 120K
Coolant N/S ("Long-term rated. Change at system repairs only").
V-Belt N/S
Fuel Filter N/S
Power Steering Fluid N/S

Maintenance program: 3 years / 36K

Warranty: 4 years / 50K

2010 Dealer Service prices Seattle area:
1) Oil Change ($95)
2) Micro Filter ($90)
3) Transmission Service ($300)
4) Brake Fluid ($90)
5) Coolant ($150)
6) Air Filter ($80)
7) V-Belt ($180)

MCS Fever: Would you recommend getting it? I'm trying to decide that before my car hits 36k miles, which is coming up in about 400 miles.

Nope! Run the numbers yourself, even at stealership prices it won't pay for itself. And if you are averaging 18,000 miles a year - you will drive out of the coverage before you run out of time......

Do it yourself - very easy. 7,500 to 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

I felt the same way at first - it's that canister oil filter that has you worried isn't it. Changed it at 5,000 mile first time and it was no problemo at all. Collected the right tools ahead of time, and just took it nice and slow. Hardly even dripped a bit.

27mm Oil Filter Casing
Torque: 18.5 ft lb (O-ring).
(Bungee the coolant tank out of the way).

My compliments to MCS Fever, he knows the correct amont of oil ,4.4 quarts, to install in his Mini. The dealer will install 5 quarts and tries to convence you that it doesn't matter despite the fact that a over fill could damage the engine, per owners manual.
