Pulse is very cool. It does what it is meant to do. I've been using it since the first day it was added here. I has saved me much time. Thanks.

Here is my wish list to make it cooler.

1) list active forum topics at the top of the window and put the "What's New" section at the bottom.

2) The hyperlink takes you to the most recent post in the topic instead of to the first one on page 1.

Also (meaning that I second the previous message), since I don't always enter MCO from the Home Page, it would be nice to have a link available on every page (within the menu?) to initialize it.

Both good points. The original intent of the What's New area was to leave it up only a couple of days at a time (or when something new pops up)....I left it up too long

Any headway on this?

I've been swamped on some other efforts at the moment and haven't been able to look into this further. One question though...does it make sense to go the the 1st one on the first page...forcing you to scroll through the posts looking for the newest one, or is it more desireable to jump to the most current post? Thanks!

Mark

For me, the most current post would be great, since I like to use the pulse to see if a current topic has a new post, so I can jump back in and check it out.

It's very cool!!! I assumed it required a download and install so I didn't start using it until just recently (still being on dial-up at home). It would be great if it was like AIM and you could select your preference and have it "Always on top" when it refreshed. I find it gets lost under the 7+ windows and programs I have open at once and I forget it's open until I start closing windows :smile: I'm finding it very useful now- GREAT JOB!!! Much easier to keep an eye on the forums with this!

LOL. I love how many of the moderators ( CMINIGO, L.Mini, and DiD ) are using dial-up connections at home.

Mark,
It makes the most sense to me that the link points to the most current posting in the topic. Since I use MCO Pulse to see where the new activity is, usually I've already read everything but the latest posting.
Thanks for addressing my concern. You MCO mod's are the best!

Great idea! Unfortunately I haven't yet found a way to keep it on top. I'll keep looking around when I have a chance to see if any type of solution exists. Thanks for the feedback!

Try this little javascript I just wrote for you. It'll place the window on top of all other browser windows every 2 seconds (2000 milliseconds). However this only works for browser windows. I couldn't get it to go on top of other windows applications.

<html>
<script language=javascript>
function setMCOPulseOnTop()
{
window.focus();
setTimeout('setMCOPulseOnTop();', 2000);
}
</script>

<body onload="setMCOPulseOnTop();">
<h1>Here on top</H1>
</body>
</html>

Thanks! One question though when it takes focus doesn't it steal focus from any other windows that might be open? If so it might be a pain when you are working in Word or using someother application. Thanks again!

It'll only take focus from web browser windows, not from Windows Applications like Word, Outlook, etc.

...hmmmm....wait a second!

This might not be the best solution because it will steal focus from you when you're typing in a post. Bad. Sorry, looks like I led you down the wrong path with this one.

Maybe a better solution would be to write a java applet. However that's realy beyond my skill-level.

Just wanted to say thanks for the Pulse launch link on each page!

...now, about hyperlinking to individual posts within a thread....

I'll have to see if its possible to link to a given part of the thread without a lot of development. I'm tied up at the moment on a project so it will likely be a while before I can look into this. You may want to PM a reminder to me in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

I understand. Not a problem - I really meant it as a good-hearted joke because I know you are working your tail off Mark!

Nonetheless, I will send you a PM in about a month.

Mark,

While you're tinkering around with the Pulse to allow for it to link us to the most recent topic, I just wanted to raise a request that I have seen posted somewhere on the board in another topic.

How hard do you think it would be to allow us to pick which forums we would like to have pulse updates for? For instance, maybe in the account profile info, we could tick off the forums we wanted to see on the pulse. In my case that might be MINI Talk, Beneath the Bonnet, Performance, Interior/Exterior, Racing & Competition, and Rocky Mountain. For someone else it may be MINI Talk and Off Topic.

Dave

Here, here. I second that motion. With all the mini2 vs. MCO talk in one of the threads, I think that'd be a good thing to include "selection-ability" in both Pulse and in "5 Recent Topics" list.
