Las Vegas Sun Microsystems Employee??

Hi,

I was hoping one of the Sin City members might be a Sun Employee? I am. I'm coming to AMVIV and will be working on Mon/Tues afterwards at the LV office...

I was hoping to get some info about the office set up!

Thanks!
Lynn

I didn't even know Sun had an office here. The club isn't really tech geek heavy, like Las Vegas in general.

I own tons myself...and thousands in options. I continue to buy stock every payday (like a good employee). I've worked for Sun for 18 years and I'm confident some day the stock will recover. Wish I had sold a bunch at $150 tho!

The office is on Howard Hughes Parkway.

See y'all soon!

It's been up the last 5 days... All the major analyst have it at a current rating: hold. Hang in there, it may be a while! Hopefully we'll keep seeing strong markets across the board. Look towards international markets this year, but enough of that crap!

Yes it has! $4.89 right now. I'd be happy for it to get up to $10! Hanging in there is definitely great advice. Sun's here to stay!!!

Well, the School District (my employer) is in the process of implementing an SAP ERP on Sun hardware, and then we're going to replace our mainframe with a Sun UNIX box.
I'm not on either project. I'm happy about that.

Geek and Mac don't go together in my book. Macs are for people who "hate computers". That's why so many teachers love them.

Got to agree about Macs.

Fuzzy started working on computers when Cray still worked for Univac and the entire combat systems for a destroyer ran on 16k of core memory! I trailed by a few years but have done my share of machine language coding.

Argo, remember what lies beneath the calm inviting exterior of Mac OS: UNIX!

Since the iMac, with its rounded corners, they don't even make good anchors any more.

Yes. Because all the hackers are targeting MS coz almost no-one is using a Mac.

Aw Argo, please. Old chestnut! Naught, naughty!

OSX is inherently a far more secure, and difficult system to crack compared to Windowze. Hackers have been trying for a long time (it's their Mt. Everest), and have only recently succeeded in developing malware for OSX (the 2). The catch, is that the Mac user must actually install the malware, and give it permission to work. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Mac market share is increasing. The percentage points may not look like a lot, but remember that there are hundreds of millions of computers out there, and a couple percentage points is a heck of a lot of hardware. Right now, more people are switching to Mac than ever before, the new Intel based machines that allow OSX and Windowze is a big reason, the other is people sick and tired of malware. Now, the Windowze partition on their Mac (should they create one) will be just as vulnerable to malware, but it won't affect OSX at all.

I'm just stirring. As a programmer-type geek, who occasionally has to support Macs, I hate them. As a user, they're fine except for the refusal to add a 2nd mouse button. I also hate that you can't easily open them up and add bits. I've never had a PC that has lasted more than 1 hour in my home before the case was opened and components added. Can't do that with a Mac.

Argo, Argo, Agro....

You can use ANY kind of mouse you want to a Mac. 2, 3, 5, buttons or more. Just plug it in.

You can add anything you like to a Mac. More RAM, more storage, PCI cards, etc.

Been that way for years.

I'm proud to say that even my MP3 player is non-Apple.
