Autox at AMVIV 6? Is this going to be part of the Phil Wicks North American Mini Cooper Challenge series or a stand alone event? I attended AMVIV 5 and participated in the T/A at SMMSP and had a great time taking first in class. So if they are one in the same I'm definately in. If not then I guess which ever event would give me the most competition is the one I want to attend. I enjoy both the same it's just hard finding competition in the justa Cooper class.

Becky and I will both participate. An Autox will be far more affordable for most attendees, and less danger of damaging the car you have to drive home in. We'd never do the track event.
As a matter of fact, once it's confirmed Becky and I will be there (we're really trying hard), we'll be happy to pitch in.
Say hi to Allon for us.

I've been wishing they'd add...
I've been wishing they'd add either a Solo 2 autocross (ie pylons with lots of runoff) or a TSD rallye or both. I'd also suggest having voluntary mod and stock classes for R53 and R56s. I got my clock cleaned a few weeks back by a firsttime autocrosser, which in my experience is unusual. Darren was driving very well, but I couldn't help but think he had some spare horses or some other major advantage over stock, but our BMWCCA events class all MINIs as a single class. Ideally we could all submit our mods to some simple online form so just for kicks others can understand how folks prepared their cars.

I wish Phil Wickes wasn't involved. The local SCCA was willing to help, and they have the EXPERIENCE.
People who already autocross, are used to the SCCA style and rules. Those who come to try it and like it, will find SCCA style events when they get home.
I don't know what Wickes will be offering, except further cementing himself into the Mini world for HIS profit.

What was the selection process involved for the proposed site? Is the proposed site absolutely the only place? Or one of convenience?
When I first broached the idea with Allon and the LVSCCA, the idea was they'd provide the equipment and key volunteers, essentially putting on an autox but for the Mini's only. Run fees would go to the LVSCCA. Track workers would come from those running, taking their turns by run group.
Did something change?

The selection process was based on cost and a place in town easily to get to. I spoke to Allan when the AMVIV planning began, and he said it was going to cost 1500 dollars for them to do the event, this did not include the rental of the site. We received a quote from Sunset Station for 2500 dollars for the rental of the parking lot. Which brings us to a grand total of 4000. Each participant would also pay a 15 dollars for insurance fee that the LVCCA must collect. Allan also mentioned that we would need volunteers to spot the corners and such. I think it is a great idea, but unfortunately the schedule for events for AMVIV has already been planned out and in order to get it back in we would need to book the site by next week. Also we run into the problem of trying to find a sponsor for the event. I was hoping to have a sponsor pay for the event and basically if anyone wanted to participant, it was going to cost them 15 dollars.. Great deal for all day Autocross.. I spoke to Phill Whick and they are not doing wheel to wheel racing at the track this year, but they are doing time trials instead. If you can get a sponsor and a track location by next week, I will happy to bring it back to the AMVIV Committee to put it back on the event calender.

The way most autox works, is each entrant pays a fee of around $35-$40 per car. Usually includes 4 runs of one lap each. LVSCCA used to run in a casino lot in Primm. Easy straight run to Primm. You break it into at least a couple of run groups: for example Coopers in one group and Cooper-S in the other. One group runs while the other group works the track (corners, registration, etc).
I'll PM you with my number if you want to discuss it. Becky and I are experienced at it, and I know the other autoxers will dive in.
BTW: Allon is name He's a furrigner!

After looking at the nonsense Phil Wicks is offering, not only would we skip the event, we might skip AMVIV altogether. We were looking forward to an autocross. Not his insanely overpriced event. Twice as much as a normal autocross for half the event.

Phil wick is no way part of AMVIV, He holds his event around AMVIV so that people can sign up if they want. It be a shame to not come to AMVIV because of Phil. If the LVCCA can hold a Event the same weekend as AMVIV, we can put it on a option for people to attend. They will need to charge what ever they need to cover the event, because we do not have the necessary funds to pay for the event.
