Embarrassing but I admit it......

Ok, I admit it...I never saw the Italian Job until I got bored (and tired of yardwork) today and rented it! YIKES!

Probably the only MC owner in the world that never saw it!

Not only a great movie but the Mini's were outrageous, and the actors did almost all the stunt work themselves...Way Cool

I actually watched the xtras and found out that Charlene really owns an Austin Cooper herself....ME THINKS I WILL PURCHASE IT FOR MY SMALL DVD COLLECTION! (I usually rent).

I have a Plasma HDTV with excellent upconverting as well as a Pioneer Elite 59i upconverting DVD player (major expense, but worth everty dime!)

I would say that combo gives me about 75% the look and feel of real HD with regular DVD's and my Big Ugly Dish and 4dtv..(a BUD)...also the sound thru the Mirage Omni Polar 5.1 speaker setup is incredible (thru a Pioneer Elite THX receiver!!!! Feels like you are driving (wishful thinking) Especially with the "little" baby Vee velodyne Subwoofer!
hehheh...to many expensive hobbies!

Jeff

No need to feel embarrassed, gizzer! Now be sure to rent the original from the 60s with Michael Caine and get ready for a good old-school movie with fabulous scenery and classic Mini driving that will have you giggling!

A couple of years ago, I told a colleague at work that I was going to buy a Mini Cooper. She asked if I has seen the Italian Job. I admitted to her that I had not seen it, and she suggested I rent it over the weekend. I went to the video store and rented it. On Monday morning, she asked me how I liked the movie. I told her it was pretty good. I loved the Mini Coopers and Micheal Caine was pretty good too. She said that Michael Caine wasn't in the movie. After a few more questions about certain scenes and mention of Charlize Theron, we concluded that I rented the original and she was referring to a remake. I must say I enjoyed the remake more for two reasons: the MINIs were the latest models and Charlize was...well...hot.

I am single too but....Charleze is VERY Distracting!!!!!
The Mini's were fabulous as well as the orig Austin that cropped up from time to time!!! Forgot how much smaller they were than our newer ones! I loved the scene when she parked the red Austin....

Regards
jeff

Going to rent the orig today which was also suggested by Gold Country Mini!

Good flick.

I know my friends think I only like the recent Italian Job because of the MINI's. And I'll admit that's certainly why I watched it initially.

But I think I'd REALLY like it even if it weren't MINI's. It reminds me of the REAL Mission Impossible I.E. the TV series. The balance of plot and gadgets is similar. And like the TV show even though you know what the 'team' is doing you usually had a surprise at the end where it seemed something was going wrong, but they had that covered too.

In the IJ movie when Steve shows up with the gun and confronts Charlie... Then the 'freaking' urkranians step in, pre arranged and "I've already made my deal". Cool. That last scene made me miss the old TV MI. I need to look and see if that series is available on DVD...

I only wish the plot had allowed for more screen time for Donald Sutherland.

Charlize, wow

To me, the original IJ would be a very good movie whether classic Minis were involved, or not. On the other hand, I found the new IJ interesting only BECAUSE of the new MINIs in it. To me, it was a very average film, even though the lovely Charlize was in it.

Funny how tastes vary. I've tried to watch the original twice and I've fallen asleep both times. Well, let's be glad both were made so there's something for everyone?

Young'ns like you need the fast-cut edits of contemporary filmmaking to remain interested, right? I love the gorgeous panoramic scenery and awesome vehicles in the original. It would be prohibitively expensive to shoot a movie in the same European locations in this day and age.....

Young'ns? You've got me confused with someone else

I don't subscribe to the handheld fast cut 'style' of 'film'. I like tripods I'm too old for the MTV school of composition and editing.

Interesting indeed...I am familiar with the English wit...so the cornball stuff did not bother me, but I can see how you could fall asleep...no plot or depth at all...the scenery and Minis were the reason I rented (obviously). I think the action Mini scenes were MUCH better in the remake BTW! The older Minis diD not show off their handling in the old movie either IMHO.

MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE CHASE WAS WHEN THE 3 MINIS "HIDE" IN THE MINI PARKING AREA...Now that was really funny!

What was interesting was that during the chase scene...they always lined up with the RED then WHITE, Then BLUE Minis

Be sure to check out the one deleted scene, shows off handling and my favorite part of the original (and favirute scene in al cinema for that matter), but it was out of pace with the rest of the chase so it got cut.

I think they should have left the dancing Minis in...I like that one a bunch too...Still laughing when they hid out their minis in the mini Parking lot...that was hilarious too!!!

Now I want to know just what is in the punch they are spiling us with when we buy these Minis....I used to be somewhat "normal" until I got mine!

See ya all soon in Auburn!!!
