Removing rear MINI emblem/hatch "button"

Has anyone ever replaced/removed the rear MINI emblem (i.e., the "button" for the rear hatch)? There was some bird poop that I neglected to remove, and that crap ate into the finish. =(

As you tilt the button to open the hatch, you can see two tiny slots at the bottom of the emblem. Do you simply insert a small screwdriver and pry it off?

The link you posted refers to non-R60 Countryman MINIs, where the MINI wings emblem is affixed via adhesive. I was referring to the R60 Countryman circular MINI emblem, which comprises the outer face of the tilting rear hatch lock.

i think you have to remove the hatch panel. just pull it out gently one tab at a time. then the assembly is right there.

If you are talking about the round handle that says “MINI” just gently pry it off with a screwdriver. Go slow. I removed mine, sanded it, and painted it black, then used some aluminum tape and duplicated the MINI portion.

Thanks! Yes, I'm talking about the round handle. Just to clarify, did you pry off the MINI cover with the entire assembly still on the car?

Yes, just tilt the handle and insert a pry tool between the base and the badge. Do a google search for R60 trunk emblem and you will see a few pics. There are two small tabs each at the 12,3,6,9 O’clock positions. It is pretty easy to get off.
