May 24th run down Hwy1 from Monterey, this marks 5 years for Norcal Minis
May 24th we will have a run down Hwy 1. Starting in the Monterey area heading south on Hwy 1 and into Fort Hunter Ligget and back up in the coast range on some awesome small roads. Meetup at the Black Bear Dinner in Carmel Valley located at Rio Rd and Hwy 1 at 8am for breakfast. We will leave there at 10am SHARP. Make sure you have a FULL TANK and your radios. We will go about 58 miles south on Hwy 1 to Naciemento-Ferguson Rd (awesome views). You must have a photo ID, current insurance and registration paper work for the military when we pass through Hunter Liggett. On the way back north we will stop at Manzoni Winery on River Rd for a little tasting then its on to the Penny Farthing in Salinas for a late lunch and to raise a pint in honor of the club. This run marks 5 years for Norcal Minis, so if you can't make the run join us at the Penny Farthing around 3pm and help us celebrate. Thanks to Mic and Vickie for setting this up . Update !!! We will have a RAFFLE at the Penny Farthing after the run. Thanks to Mini Mania and Bay Bridge Motors for the donation!!!!!

Reason: updated INFO
That's a fun ride for sure! You have to watch your speed inside the fort. Very limited speed through there, and the MPs don't fool around about it. But the road is still great!
I was in Montery last Friday and took 1 all the way to my Dads place in Morro Bay.
So fun ... not to much traffic.
Not sure about doing it back to back ...
Be very sure to gas up in Monterey ...
There is 1 gas station on 1 and if you are "on it" fuel does go fast ... it was $8.00 a gallon at the station on 1 in that section
Remember, This run is on Memorial Day weekend , so the traffic on HWY 1 will be robust and the CHP will be working overtime. Good call on the petrol situation. Between Big Sur and King City on this route I can only recall 1 gas station as mentioned. Sign me up!.
I'm leaving from Dublin at 6AM. If anyone wants to meet up be at the Starbucks located at 7904 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, Ca 94568. LEAVING 6AM. If you would like to join up with us and caravan down to Monterey we will be following 680 to 101 south. Milpitas, San Jose, Gilroy? Pick a spot close to the freeway with easy on and off.
You guys will probably want to top off the fuel at Rio road in Carmel. There is a Chevron and Shell there.
Highway 1 is heavily patrolled just about all the time. They use a plane and helicopter, in addition to ground units. If you are going down one before 10 am, there won't be much traffic.
I may run down before you all and take some pictures. The road to Hunter Ligget has serious good views on the climb up to highway 1.
No you don't have to be a member. But do bring a radio and a MINI attitude . The gas station on Hwy 1 was on CNN tonight $5.40 for regular. Fill up before the run or pay the price

That was probably Gorda. They are usually $1-2 higher.
What kind of pace does your club run?

Radios are the FRS type. Like the little Motorola ones main channels with side channels. If you don't have one there is always someone with a extra you can use. Bring some of your products with you I'm sure a few of us would like to check them out.
We travel at a touring pace, trying not to upset the locals. Not to much over the speed limit. Those that want to go faster can go on ahead. But should leave skid marks when they leave the road so we know where to send the rescue squad. I've had to talk to too many cops over the last five years .

I'm attending the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, so even at 38 years old, I'm quickly falling back into my old undergraduate "student lifestyle".
(Come home from school, take a nap if I feel like it, get up and study, and then go to bed about 1 AM.)

I've run varying size groups of motorcycles, 2-30 riders. Everyone rides their own pace, no high speeds on the straights (65, maybe 70). The fun is in the cornering. I've driven with 2 auto clubs, both were Porsche groups. They all thought it was a race. One of the groups was always in triple digits on the straights. I quit the club after that day. Nice to see you guys don't run that way. There aren't too many passing zones on highway 1.
