May 24th run down Hwy1 from Monterey
The road is basically two parts. The part through the military base is in great shape with a line down the middle. Before you get to there, on the west side, it's basically a 1 lane (wider than 1 actually, but not 2 lanes wide). It's a chip-seal surface. No center line. No guard rails, steep drop offs. You climb up the mountain from highway 1. When you reach the top, you drive over a ridge and the other side of this is very tight and twisty with many blind corners. There are some camp grounds along the road. The aren't many potholes and the road is in decent condition. It was chip-sealed about 3 years ago. Most of the very loose stuff has worn away. I've hit this road on my sportbike quite a bit so I know where most of the dirty/gravel corners and locations are.
