Msfitoy,

Did you get a matched exhaust flange gasket with the Webb head?
If so then why not make a template from it or use it to lay over the new header flange to mark it up for porting.

BahamaBart, your OBX is perfect with the stock head ports, nice little anti-reversion step in there.

Looks like there won't be much gasket after you cut - #1. If a leak starts, it will get bad quick.

The photo of the header flange material to remove is what I saw when I put mine on--I just used a die grinder to remove all that red stuff down to the primaries.

cheers,

The problem is, there won't be much interference for the flange gasket. If that was my header, I'de be welding another 1/8"+ to the #1 corner before making the cut. There is a, relatively important, relibality issue after the cut on #1.

cheers,

which is what "we" (Dave...I sat and watched) did.....it is interesting to note that there is still a lip that would probably benefit from adding some material to make it smooth but we did not do that

Excuse a neophyte question here, but what's the easiest way to determine exactly how much/what needs to be milled? If putting a new header on you don't have deposits conveniently marking the way. tia

The best way that I have found is to make a template out of thin copper or aluminum ( 20g is what I use ). I prefer copper as it can be a little easier to use. Save the template for that head so it may be used on another header or if you are fabing your own header.

After you get done grinding them headers you'll definetely have to let us know the results. I am tempted now to pull my header off. Just for a look.

Didn't you see those pictures on the OBX thread some time ago. I posted pictures of before and after using the OEM flange gasket on my OBX. The OEM gasket is larger than the OEM head ports I just made them match perfectly.
Thing is all this stuff has been discussed before on here and now being rediscovered.
Always check and recheck it’s the details that count.

He is making the ports larger to match up with his ported/polished cylinder head.

Like Spidy said - so many posts so little time. If you know the thread tell me and I will go back and take a look. I used the OBX gasket that came with the header.
