El has the twincharger, so this intake wouldn't mate-up...

Thank you soo much for the interest in the Air Gain System...

Here is where we stand with the M7 AGS.
After exorcising all the vaccum leaks (except one) The M7 AGS was finally
installed and some mold detail has to be changed for a perfect fit.

The "except one" leak is at the SC and we will have a custom gasket made
in a high temerature silicone or neoprene, these materials will conform to the
AGS better, and thus preventing this pesky vaccum leak.

On Friday, airflow testing will be done on all competing systems and we will show all the # asap.

Sincerely

peter

*sigh* Why make all this fuss when you're not ready to release? Look at all the commotion you've caused for nothing.

I know it's frustrating, and some of my posts have teased M7 on this very subject. But if you don't talk until it's released, you sit on inventory until the market is educated about the product. If you do it any sooner, someone is frustrated about the hype. For what I do, things less than about $5k need about a 6 week lead, and for more expensive stuff, up to three months.

This is coming out at right around 6 weeks. A bit long for something that going to cost a few hundred dollars, but not outrageous.

But I'm sure we all want to see the photos and the dyno plots!

Matt,

Check your calendar again. This thread started 62 days ago and I saw mention of the M7 intake prior to that.

I think his reference to 6 weeks might be to M7's release on his website on 10/21...

I believe a few saw his prototype late summer, and some gossip began. Heck, I'd rather have it a couple weeks from now working properly, as opposed to something now that is not...

I didn't root around to first mention. I went with the date on the web sight. Seems the mini crowd is tight enough that there are no secrets!

From the last few posts on this thread it sounded like this is the first prototype being fitted and still working out some bugs. Yet over two months ago everyone was saying this will blow the doors of everything out there. While I am not saying it will or it won't don't you think it is pretty premature for speculation. They are still having problems getting it fitted, let alone any real numbers. You could actually loose power or maybe only gain a few hp. No one even knows yet. M7, I am not sure who you show these things too, but man does hype always seem to build way into the future on your products. Some pan out, and others don't, but there sure are a lot of people selling the moon before there is any idea what the product will do.

Hi Dgs.....

The first prototype was on my car for more then 4 months, giving me an idea
what kind of performance could be expected. during this time many of my friends and Mini enthusiasts here on the Westcoast, kind of got a glimpse of
the "Air Gain System" and that's how the rumour of something special got started.

To get the AGS in production is a little bit more complicated then bending
some sheetmetal and adding a filter. My prototype got yanked out of the Mule, and in to the pattern shop it went, where I hung out for a week
working with the molding guys to make the parts that ultimately ended up
as aluminum molds for final production. (over simplification)

When you mold plastics you can expect certain shrinkage and thats where some of the problems arised last weekend. Nothing big, but enough to
push the production back untill we solve that problem.

As for the vaccum leak we experieced, we traced it too the stock SC gasket
which is a little to hard (not pliable), I poured a new RTV gasket this afternoon which should cure the vaccum problem.

As we are moving the TB approximatly 4" from the stock location, a new wire
harness has to be built so you guys do not have to hack in to the stock
harness for connection. This doesn't sound to bad untill you realize that the
female connector is not commercialy available ..... We made our own.

The filter is a custom shaped M7 only design, to fully utilize the the very limited space we have in the front of the car.

M7 Speed inc imports a very fine line of stainless steel hose clamps, allowing
us to add SS T-Bolt hose clamps to the assembly (fantastic bling).

I hope this answered some of your questions...

And as always feel free to call us with further questions.

Funny,

I have seen posts here saying the first model makes the first buyers test people to see if it works or not. One quote was:

"The one thing that kept racing though my mind was should I really purchase a car in its first year of production? I should have gone with my first instinct and not purchased the convertible. After seeing the number of issues my father had with his first year Cadillac Catera, it is obvious that first year car buyer are used by car makers as ginney pigs to get the bugs out of cars."

I believe the "hype" is started to see if there is any interest in whatever is in the mind of the person going to put up the $$$$$$$$$ to get it made.

I have an idea I'm working on for something totally unrelated to the MINI and it will cost a bunch of $$$$$ to make one as you actually need to make a couple thousand or so to get the price where it needs to be. I would never throw a bunch of money at an idea that I did not do some research (read hype) on before opening my wallet.

That being said, do you want the AGS now or when it works?

Earl

Not sure of either, but I'd like to see the pics and the concepts somewhere close to when I was told to expect them!

The wait is hurting me too. I've asked Peter about the system and it's status. He's was waiting to get one of the pieces back after getting it altered for better fit.
Let's keep hoping it's done in time for Christmas.

That's all we can do, wait. It doesn't help that the website is teasing us either. If you click on one of the products on the homepage, it brings you to that produst, but has the AGS on the lefthand menu.

Not clickable though!!!
