Just curious how the fellow G-stockers are doing so far this season. My husband and I are rookies and both driving my MCS. My hubby is doing pretty well (much better then myself) he got 11th out of 46 at our first event and 4th out of 8 (top 3 drivers were very experienced).

I am doing an evolution phase I school this Sat (hubby is not) and we are both racing on Sunday at the Tire Rack in South Bend on Sun. I might have to put an end to the husband racing if he keeps beating me in MY OWN CAR! LOL

In our SCCA G-stock autoX we have a few MCS.

Some things "can" help. 16" X-lyte rims with legal Falken Azenis sport or Kumho V700 tires. No sunroof, No heavy aftermarket stereo upgrades, No Xenon lights, no runflat tires and heavy 17" stock rims of any type. Turn off DSC before each run.

Schroth racing harnesses are good and keep up that tire pressure.
Good luck.

It's still possible to do really well in stock classes with a MINI even with none of the advantages one would normally try to have. Skill counts the most.

I am racing in two regions: Alabama and Gulf Coast. I had thought that I would race seriously in my local region and just for fun in Florida, but I have had to miss the last 2 races locally and am not sure if that is going to kill me for points.

On the brighter side, I am doing very well in the Gulf Coast region and now that the G-stock champ has bought a WRX STI, I have a very good chance of winning the season trophy. One more race down there will make me the points leader

In 3 races I have placed 3rd, 2nd, and 1st, improving with each race.

Now I have a dilemma: Because of the missed races in Alabama, I have to decide after one more race which region I am going to concentrate on for the rest of the season.

For the record, I am running either x-lite rims with Falken Azenis (215/45/16) or 16 Monzas with Hoosier RS04's, Magnaflow exhaust, Schroth racing harness. I even race with my factory roof rack on the car since it only weighs a very few pounds. Since the weight carried by my driver's seat is less than most, I don't worry too much about the additional weight of the sunroof, etc.

- "our" SCCA region = hawaii

- a stock mcs has easily been driven to top 10 overall and could probably be top 5 overall at every race if the driver chose to drive this car over his STi (this also applies to 1st in g-stock)

- there have been many instances when other stock mcs' in g-stock have been 2nd or 3rd place....now there may not have been hundreds of drivers, but 1st/2nd/3rd is still 1st/2nd/3rd place

- all the gstock mcs' above have sunroofs

minihune -- you've only run in 1.5 autocross events and that was in another class and without v700s or azenis. good "advice" that you give.

Amen to that! I was stupid and left it on for my first 3 runs last event. Idropped a whole sec on a 40 sec course!

Boilermini, See you and Conceptvision Sunday! We will see what we have learned in school!

So far, I'd say I'm doing well.
I've got a win in the Atlanta Pro:
http://www.scca.org/_Filelibrary/Fil...lo-pro-atl.pdf

And three local wins with two #1 PAX's in 250 car fields.

Congrats on your wins Brian.

Minifinn, I like your new sig! As for Sunday, don't expect too much from me. Conceptvision is not doing the evo school. And that's a good thing, I think he is fast enough!

Here are the local results for my MCS

So far, I'm not doing real well as far as Garfield standards, but fairly well for us mortals. I just need some more seat time.

Class scores
1st GS
1st GS
1st GS
2nd GS (I had all rain runs, lost by .23 to 1st who had all dry runs)
1st GS

PAX scores

1st of 61
3rd of 110
1st of 65
18th of 115 (all rain runs for me)
3rd of 109

Craig Wilcox
#85 GS Dark Silver MCS

Congrats to Boilermini! A day after her EvoPhase 1 school she took third place trophy out of 13 pretty quick G stockcompetitors at South Bend Region SCCA points event at The Tire Rack.

AND YES SHE BEAT HER HUSBAND! among others I won't mention at this time.

I am still thinking about a protest. She should have to run in Ladies Class!

Just kidding. Way to go Boilermini!!!!!

PS: The next time I have the cash I'm at EVO School.

An update:

Since I knew I won my last G-stock race, I didn't check my PAX results until just now.

Very happy to see that I was 6th out of 85 entrants

Thanks for the "props", minifinn!

Here's a teaser for you, I checked the evo school site and they are doing phase I and II in Benton Harbor on July 25,26,27.

I hope I can repeat my results this sunday at the INR event. I'm sure conceptvision will do his best to dethrone me.

You will have to represent for us in June at the SBR event. Make us proud!!!

Just got back from today's races with Alabama Region SCCA. I took 2nd in G-stock and was 3 or 4 hundredths of a second behind the winning car, another MCS

So far this season:

One first place finish
Two second place finishes
One third place finish.

All in all, I am very pleased with how I am doing in my novice season

Conrats Yucca! It's great to see us novices doing so well.

My husband (conceptvision) and I also did a race (Indiana northwest region) yesterday. He beat me, as I had a feeling he would. So he finished 1st and I got 2nd. There were 5 drivers total in GS. I hate to say this but, the 3rd place time was over 2 sec behind me. I think they all want Mini's now!

Well Andrew it’s too bad I never found the top to the air filter box and filter. Mike dropped me a line this morning and no one showed up for G Stock at the Gulf Coast meet yesterday. One clean run at any speed would have given me a first. Oh well. Never did find it so I’ll have to order one from a dealer before next month’s race.

Oh darn it! All that frustration with the missing air-box cover just to have nobody else even show up that could have possibly protested.

Here is an interesting twist too: Yesterday, the kid with the Ford Focus SVT that had beaten me previously with an illegal CAI showed up again to race in G-Stock without returning his intake to stock. I did not protest previously since I was only 99% positive that his intake was aftermarket and against the rules. Before we raced, I asked him about it and informed him that he was violating the rules and he admitted that he knew the rules and was ignoring them.

After 3 runs, he came up and asked what my times were. When I told him, he told me that he was in the lead by about 0.050 seconds. I then informed him that regardless of his times he was in last place and could could NEVER win since he would be disqualified as soon as I protested the results.

The other MCS and I both beat him fair and square so no protest was necessary. The bad sport Focus driver then proceeded to play hookey from working the course. If he shows up again with the attitude that he does not need to play by the rules or work the course, he is going to get an earful from me

What a JERK. We have a no work, no score policy in place for our region. Not working usually isn't a problem. If everybody works hard we have more times for fun runs.

I just don't get it. It can't be fun to "win" knowing in your heart that you are nothing but a big fat loser cheater. . . .

I sure wish Alabama SCCA would be more strict with the no-work/no-points policy. I considered myself late to work since I stopped to go to the bathroom quickly after finishing my runs. Even so, I stood out at my corner station for over 15 minutes listening to the PA system calling for people to get to their stations. . . .

I won the Midwest divisional in St Louis. Some of the guys were suggesting that I was "cheating" and there is no way my Mini is stock since it was peeling out in 2nd gear exiting a corner. Too bad the Mini doesn't have LSD, then it would not have lost traction and I would have won by another full second!

Doing OK on my first season with the MCS in G-Stock. Still learning the car. I used to drive a 3rd gen RX-7 so the handling characteristics is very different, gotta be more patient in the second part of the corner now. Other than that it's been fun. Came second place in NYRSCCA autox this past weekend, 6 cars in the class with .4 seconds behind the Neon ACR.

Regarding cheaters, this past weekend I was in Kentucky for their event at Fort Knox. I run STX, but this was still pretty interesting.

First off, I can't really complain, because my times were good enough to win the class, except I coned at least once on EVERY STINKING RUN! The worst part was that I didn't realize that I had cones on runs 3 and 4, or I would have taken it easier. Still, I finished third. The guy in second, in a WRX, in STX class remember, was on Kumho V700 R compound tires! In a street tire class! The guy that won the class, who happens to be the regional executive, was also in a WRX. I don't know first hand, but he has told other people in the region that he has an aftermarket ecu, which, if it alters boost, would also be illegal.

Since I don't normally run up there, I didn't say anything. But still.

CHEATERS! Hate em! At least I sleep well knowing that I earn my points legitimately and that winning cheaters know deep in their black hearts that they are nothing but big fat losers whose driving skills are not good enough to perform well without breaking the rules

i sure am not going to put up with my personal cheating nemesis the next time he shows up to the track with his illegal intake. . . .

That’s the reason I didn’t think about driving out last week when I couldn’t find my air filter cover Andrew. Even if the other people had no problem with the fact I didn’t have it installed, it states in the rules it must be in place. The fact that no one showed up for G Stock doesn’t matter, according to the rules for G Stock I would have been illegal.

Congrats to Boilermini and her husband! I just saw the PAX results for the July INR Solo (finally). It appears you both ranked higher than McKamey in his Emod "Frankenstein Yugo" creation. And Hubby #2 in the Index, WOW!

Well I got my air filter problem resolved and went out racing yesterday. Took a 2nd for the day. Only hit one cone all day, but was the one run I could have ended up in 1st. Oh well. Over all standings for the year I’m in 3rd right now, but I missed a couple races so it’s my fault I’m not doing better in the standings.
