R52 (2008 MC Convertible) camber adjustment

I've read a number of posts that refer to removal of an "assembly alignment bolt" or "plastic thingy " that can legally be removed to allow a greater range of allowable stock camber adjustment.

Can anyone tell me (or better yet, show with a pic) where exactly this part is and if it exists on the R52 Convertible chassis?

I'm getting ready to set up my R52 for it's 1st full season of Auto-X and want to get the most out of it.

Would someone be so kind as to describe the exact process of which bolts to loosen and how to apply pressure to reach the max stock limit for camber?

Thanks in advance...

Are you talking about adjusting the camber on the front wheels or the rear? The convertibles don't have any adjustments for camber on the front, and the rear adjustment (only on the '05+ models) is via an eccentric adjuster. I don't think there's anything you can remove or modify to extend the adjustment range on the rear.

I'm asking about Front Camber...

I'm referring to the following quote from this thread:

It seems that there is at least *some* natural tolerance that can be taken advantage of. Plus this part on the R53/R56's mentioned above that frees up the natural tolerance some more.

I'm just not sure what I should be looking for or where I would find it...

Thanks for your reply, if you have light to share, shed some on me!

Well, the first gen cars (R50/R52/R53) don't have strut tower slots for camber adjustment in the front. The holes in the sheetmetal are just about big enough for the three studs on top of the strut to pass through, and not much more.

Here's a picture of my passenger-side strut tower, showing the three nuts that fasten to the strut studs. You can try loosening them and seeing if you can shift the strut a little bit before re-tightening them, but I don't think there's much slop there.

Hello Subiedriver, The "pin" you are talking about is on the R56/55/57 2nd Gen MINI' not on the 1st Gen R50/52/53's. The only way to get more camber on your R52 is lowering springs and or camber plates or coilovers.

Thanks Scott,

That's what I was afraid of...

On a somewhat related subject, is there a specific Haynes (or other service/technical) Manual for the R52 Convertible, or would the R53 book be my best bet?

The Bentley book covers the R50, R52, and R53.
It runs up until 2006... not sure what changes (if any) occurred on the R52 between 2006 and 2008.

So far, everything appears to be identical to the 2006s

Yep - the Bentley manual has some cabrio-specific content.
