R56 JCW Kit? What class?

Will the new JCW kit be considered SM or BS?

BUMP... I'm considering this upgrade. Would it put the car in SM?

If it's factory installed, probably BS. If you do the mods yourself, then possibly SM.

The SCCA/SEB have been pretty dumb concerning the JCW aspect of Mini's.

The R53 JCW was placed in STX, any pulley mod will put you in SM. Considering the R56 MCS was still put in GS, the R56 JCW will probably go to STX.

I'd contact the region you'll be running in. I'd lobby for BS even if dealer installed. My 2nd choice would be DSP. Despite the "trunk kit" language, the JCW is available from the factory for that year, and if completely installed by the dealer (as opposed to pieces and parts) I'd be surprised if everyone banned the car to SM.

(and oh by the way if you like coil overs and go that route, STX is possible - that's where my works runs in the New England Region of SCCA, and it WAS a dealer install)

Based on the current published 2008 SCCA rule book for Solo Events:

B stock (0.832= PAX multiplier)
MINI Cooper S factory installed JCW package 2006+ (not for dealer installed- see STX or DSP)
(this would include the newest R56 JCW kit unless specifically noted by year)

D Street Prepared (0.843 PAX)
MINI Cooper S including JCW (factory or dealer installed), JCW GP
(this would include the newest R56 JCW kit unless specifically noted by year)

Street Touring X (0.820 PAX)
MINI Cooper S including JCW (factory or dealer installed)
Must use street tires at least 140 treadwear and wheels no wider than 8" and tires no wider than 245mm
(this would include the newest R56 JCW kit unless specifically noted by year)

Street Touring U (Ultra) (0.830 PAX)
MINI Cooper S including JCW or any STX MCS
Must use street tires at least 140 treadwear and tires no wider than 275mm
(this would include the newest R56 JCW kit unless specifically noted by year)

Street Modified (0.860 PAX)
Any MINI Cooper S with change in boost including JCW (factory or dealer installed) and JCW GP
Any Turbo added MCS R53 or MC R50
(this would include the newest R56 JCW kit unless specifically noted by year)

Street Modified 2 (0.867 PAX)
Any SM class MCS is eligible

PAX handicap- smaller number is better and helps the competitor
This is how we run MINI classing in my region for MCS all years.

See PAX and compare across classes
http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/indexes/rtp2008.html

Based on PAX the best handicap for
Any factory installed MCS JCW is in Street Touring X which allows for 16" or 17" wheels (not necessarily JCW 18") and street tires.
