help a newbie

I have an R56 MCS. I want to get the rota slipstream in a 15x7 et 40 56.1 bore. Can anyone confirm if this will fit the stock R56?

I really want to get the 15 inch wheels because it will be cheaper on tires in the long run. My impression now is that the 16x6.5 slipstreams will fit. thanks for all your help

If you stay with the 16 x 6.5 Slipstreams you can stay in GS. There are a variety of tires available. I have the Slipstreams with a 215/45 Falken 615. It makes a nice combination, keeps the speedometer fairly accurate and is still good for the track or autocross.

The big problem is clearance in the front over the larger brake caliper.
15x7 might fit but it is not confirmed.

If you autocross with 15x7 wheels then you'd be in a non stock class.
STX or STU if you use street tires and DSP if you don't increase boost.

If you use any wheel that matches the 16" or 17" stock MINI wheel then you can compete in G-stock class which gives you the best more favorable handicap.

For Rota slipstreams you'd need to be careful about offset.
16x6.5" 4x100 bolt pattern +45mm offset is best since stock offset is about +48mm. +40 offset is too low. 56.1 hub bore is best but many slipstreams come with larger hub bores and will need a centering ring. Check with 18racing.com for slipstreams that are +45mm offset to match the MINI wheel.

16" wheels will still give you a good selection of either street or competition tires. Slightly more cost but close. The 16" slipstreams should clear the R56 front brakes using +45mm offset. If you don't care about stock class autocross then you can use the same rim in any offset that fits (+40 to +48mm is fine with stock suspension).

thanks for all your help especially minihune, i have read your other post as well and you are always very informative and helpful. I am going to give autox a try and it seems that the 16 inch option will be the best until I start modding my car.

The good thing about the 16x6.5 rims is even after moving to other classes of autocross, you can keep that size, it will work with some Big brake kit upgrades if you want, and there are good competition tire sizes in 16".

Further, you can sell them as there is a demand for stock sized rims for autocross.

Slipstreams have many finishes which is a plus. The stock sized slipstreams I mentioned were a special order to suit MINI owners so the color selection may be not as large. Rough weight on the 16x6.5 slipstreams is about 14 pounds.
