Anyone run 225-50-16?

We've been running the 225/50/16 V710's on 16" rims on a 1" lowered 06 JCW ...I can't seem to find anyone else running these on their MINIs here? Anyone????

I ran them. They work OK but they are a bit too tall (25.1") and effect acceleration.

V710 215/40 ZR16 22.6"
HOOSIER 205/45 ZR16 22.8"
STOCK 16's 24.4"

Smaller outer tire diameter allows for "lowered gearing" advantage which for most MINIs is a good thing.

25.1" is larger than stock so for a 2005 MCS or later this might be workable.

For 2002 to 2004 MCS the options for tires less than 23" make more sense and help the most.

225mm wide tires do best with wider rims. 215/40-16 is a very good size.

If anyone wants to run this size, I know where you can get a really great deal on a set of Avon Tech RA's in 225/50/16 that have only been scrubbed in with a few runs. PM if anyone is interested and I will pass on the contact info to the local guy thats selling.

I tried them at our last event. We get 3 runs in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, so for the afternoon I switched to the 225/50's on the front. The wouldn't heat up (it was about 65 degrees outside) as much and they felt mushy. I wasn't able to improve on my morning runs even though it was warmer in the afternoon and the track conditions had improved. I'm sticking with the 215/40's all the way around.

Thanks for the input! We are still running the 225/50/16's and are really happy BUT we have the car slightly lowered with a performance rear sway bar and there is some rubbing from the back on the outside tops of the fenders. The temp from this weekend's test and tune were around 105 ...but the air temp was only about 53 degrees.

I don't find it to really impact on the gearing from when we ran smaller tire, maybe the 06 JCW has a better gearing for running these tires?

I'd PM on the tires above but the brokerage fees are killer to Canada on used tires!

I run them on the street with JCW suspension...

I trimmed the rear inner fender well to eliminate rubbing & am very happy with the results.
