Looong course...can anyone beat it?

I know I posted this on another thread, but the more I examine it the more interesting it is (to me.... i know, i know - but humor me)

43 corners in 79 seconds, average speed of 45 mph (for slow me) [Mr. Goodale did it in 66 secs or less with the AM car].

total distance of a mile...

this is Moore Airfield at Devens, using more runway than I've seen in the previous four years, including nationals...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...chmentid=20933

pretty challenging deal -- i guess that's why they don't call it road racing (ducking )

is anyone running longer courses than this one? in terms of elements, or time, or distance?

Any videos? Sounds like a fun course. The Philly Region has some longer runs on the Warminster site, but nothing quite that elaborate!

not from me (no camera), but if one pops up (and they sometimes do) I will add a link

Make sure you guys design a course like that one for the tour this year. The part I miss the most about leaving New England is missing events at Devens.

We sometimes have courses that are 65 - 75 seconds in length, but it's because they loop back on themselves. The course you describe sounds really challanging...and fun!

We regularly run at our local race track. Fast first half only being slowed by minimal gates and using most of the actual track geography, then a technical second half. Not sure the exact distance but I'd say it's the better part of a mile. Our fastest cars (SM prep'd Evos) usually do it in around 72 secs while I struggle to break 80.

One of our faster drivers: NOT ME

On a side note, what G-Tech are you using? And how easy is it to configure? For next season, I've been thinking of getting an in-car camera, maybe even a helmetcam, and a data device would be nice to see exactly what I'm doing.

One of our sites allows longer courses, which we occasionally do. It is easy to get 1.2 miles, which normally results in times from the 60s to 70s for the faster cars. Most courses at that site are about 7/8 of a mile, which cuts down on the number of work stations and thus is easier to staff. This is at a smaller region, with entrys anywhere from a low (at least in the last 7 years +) of 16 at a February "fun" event with high winds and 5" of fresh snow to a high in the 70s. When they used to have access to a different airport site (beautiful surface) then turnouts were much higher and they did CenDiv and tour events.

The other region I most frequently run with has one site where times are pretty much always in the 30s for me, another close in size but different in layout, a small but beautiful airport site (50s), a larger but decaying airport (big enough to set up two ProSolo style mirrored courses with an opening straight a 1/4 mile long and times in the 50s or one course easily over a minute) and Peru (Grissom AFB, site of many Natl Tour, Pros, Divisionals, etc). Depending on course layout Peru can be 50s to over a minute.

Back in the 80s they used to run the road course at IRP for Solo IIs (not Solo I), which is 2.5 miles. Very few cones were used. The region got its wrist slapped for that, and we've never been back.

Your course description sounds like something for most regions to be jealous of.

Several years back, back before the "MINI" was even being sold, the Detroit SCCA had an event at the Palace of Auburn Hills where the course was about 100 seconds for my (at the time) GS car. No wrapping back on itself, just huge course on something like 5 square miles of asphalt

I actually don't care for courses like that! You can't remember the whole thing. A minute is about right for an autocross, IMHO.

Yesterday, I spent like an hour and fifteen minutes trying to drive like 10 miles to get off of long island after an autocross Can anyone beat that one

I think the design was a team effort - possibly Chang and Nate.

I will pass your request along, and I agree with you very much.

And the variety of courses referred to (and illustrated) in this thread is eye-opening for a fella that does not travel...

I guess it's the airfield - this was a 76 second course in the same space. a slightly greater distance with slightly fewer elements (about thirty three) and braking points (twelve). a porsche club of america event, which was welcome practice for Devens, and full of nice folks and fast cars (and drivers).
