Watkins Glen July 3rd-5th

Starting a new thread for Watkins Glen . . .

http://www.grand-am.com/assets/2008W...alSchedule.pdf

The race is on Saturday at 4:40pm for 2.5 hours.

This is a combined race and there are 85 entries !! 37 GS and 48 ST. I think this is the largest starting field ever for a Koni race with the exception of Daytona.

The driver line up is:

Randall Smalley
Mark Congleton
Owen Trinkler
Peter London
Ricky Johnson
BJ Zacharias

We set the fastest laps at Lime Rock and Mosport and won the pole at Mid-Ohio. We should be fast at WG also.

I don't think there is TV coverage for this race.

More to come.

Randy

More random pics from the race.

The last image is an AVI of one of the pit stops shot with a helmet cam on the fueler's helmet.

Mid Ohio pictures are posted at . . .

The team photographer, Wes Duenkel, has done an outstanding job (as usual !). Check them out.

Those are very well done pictures! Wes is doing the right thing, along with the rest of the team. I can't wait to see the video on tv

The 196 stands out with the white roof! Why not put a stripe of different color just above the windshields on the roof of the other 2 cars, so you can tell them apart more easily?

The 197 is scheduled to get a black roof (to match the black mirror covers).

Speed TV

Don't forget . . .

Saturday June 28 @ 2:00pm ET

Mid Ohio ST race will be televised on Speed.

The 196 RSR Mini led the 1st 35 laps and should get some really nice exposure.

Great job Randy and crew, ... and drivers. That was very fun to watch. Your advancement with 'our' (all of us here) Mini is to be 100% respected.
The Glen will be a tough one for you guys.

As much as I enjoyed watching the MINI running at the front, it was also a kick to see the little MINI symbol at the top of the list every time they showed the leaderboard.

I enjoyed that also.

I just wish they would have spent some more time talking about the MINI/RSR in the Koni Challenge than about their love affair with the Cobalt boys and girls.

Owen did a fabulous job it was a shame that BJ had to battle under such crappy conditions. He did a great job to keep the car intact during the off-course excursions.

Your right, when RSR was out front they would take a quick peak and then go back in the field giving every detail if one of the Cobalts so much as cut one.....

RSR will earn that TV time soon I'm sure. Yea, could have been better, but in time it will be. I'm sure of that.

I agree that the coverage was slanted to some of the other competitors. All in all it was great what team RSR did getting those MINI's to do what they did. The drivers were great. Owen really showed his skill by not flinching lap after lap while that TSX tried him at the end of the straight. Then he pulled away from the TSX as the race went on. BJ's heads up driving enabled him to thread the needle coming off the back straight. Missing spinning cars & staying out of the sand trap. Brilliant driving.

Way to go guys !!!!

Thanks a lot Mark, I appreciate that. I'm not too bad for an old guy, but I can't hold a candle to you.

See you at the Indy car / American Le Mans race.

. . . at the track

We are at WG. The cars are prepped and ready to go.
Practice on Thursday at 2:30.

No TV coverage at this event.

We are running with the Indy cars and they are on ESPN (ABC?) so the TV crew for Speed is not here.

Man you guys are going to be racing in rush hour traffic for 2.5 hours. Should be interesting.

I wish it was going to be televised. I'm betting it will be a great race.

Good luck team RSR.

Thanks!

The race is 3 hours this time.

ignore the times today. It rained hard and we didn't put the 196 car on the track. The 197 and 198 were only out to test some ECU mapping.
