It's been a while since we had a group drive. Feel free to pitch out ideas for places to motor to. Let's try to get a drive in before Memorial Day.

I don't know really where to go, but we NEED a rally, PLEASE. I am so deprived. Dave, your good at choosing routes, find some good ones, set up a date, and let's go, I am so ready.

How about coming south? The Royal Gorge or The Sand Dunes. Canyon drives, maybe even over to Telluride.

What about Colorado Springs? Any ideas for drives around there? Is Pikes Peak workable this time of year? I suppose we could swing Garden of the Gods in there too.

Here is my totally uncreative drive idea.

Meet at Aspen Grove
Drive down Santa Fe to Castle Rock
Hop on I-25 to the Springs.
Cruise Garden of the Gods.

Like I said, totally uncreative. Anyone else have a route idea??

I think we'd look good cruising in the Garden of the Gods. I might suggest taking a more interesting route down to the Springs and maybe head down CO HWY 83 (Parker Road south, and just keep going). Just a thought.

Dave,

There can be new drives and there can be traditional drives. That Estes Park drive last year was pretty darn nice, it would make an excellent annual event - I vote for a repeat treat. I especially enjoyed seeing the classic Minis.

Dave,
You guys have to try the Gap next year. It
is an 11 mile autocross. The most amazing
road in the world!!!! It should be the official
Mini road. I have never seen anything like it
and I have seen a lot of things!
This should be a National Meet site.

John,

Look for The 2nd Annual Colorado MINI Drive on either July 26th or 27th.

The Drive Route: Denver to Boulder, up Left Hand, over to Estes Park, over Trail Ridge to Granby and then back to Denver.

The only hitch to repeating that drive now, is that Trail Ridge doesn't usually open until Memorial Day weekend.

Dave,
I won't be able to join you but, try this

Meet at Aspen Grove
Take SanteFe (Hwy 85) to Sedalia
turn at light drive approx 3/4 mile across bridge
turn left on Hwy 105 and drive south to Monument
in Monument get on I-25 to continue south to C.Sprgs
in C.Sprgs. take Garden of the Gods Rd. exit and go west to the T in the road.
turn left at the T and ride down the ridge to the entrance to the Garden of the Gods.
enter G of G's (turn right or West) and enjoy a leisurely drive through G of G's into Manitou Sprgs. lunch anywhere
Take highway 24 to Woodland Park and continue to Hwy 67
go North (turn right) on Hwy 67 to Deckers then stay on Hwy 67
and continue to Hwy 85 (Sante Fe) and motor home (North)

You could leave Denver about 9AM and get into Manitou about 2.5 hours later.
Next the trip through to Deckers is a couple of hours and then about 45 minutes home. Add in any time for photo stops, potty breaks, site seeing etc. You have yourself a full days outing.

Dave,
Don't forget the 51st Annual Rallye Glenwood is be held over the three day weekend of June 6th, 7th, and 8th. Go to this website for detailed information.

http://mgcc.org/glenwood2003/main.htm

This will be an awesome event with the TSD rallye taking place the first day between Denver and Glenwood. The tour taking place around Glenwood and then the car show and funkhana on Sunday. You can participate in any or all of the events too.

How about this, we meet at Aspen Grove at 9 AM on Saturday and plan on making our way to Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods.

I'm not picky about the route (scott's sounds interesting and so does 5280 motoring's. I haven't been on large chunks of either route before though). Anyhow, the route is something we can sort over the next few days.

Scott: I can't attend the Glenwood event. However, I can easily e-mail MINI5280 about the Glenwood event. Is there anything else you think I should mention about it?

Dave

I think that is a great idea. That was one hell of a drive.

can someone suggest a meet-up location in the springs?

Grahambo: welcome to MCO. You could always show up to the BMWCCA autocross on June 1st at the parking lots north of Coors Field.

Dave,
Thanks for the email about the 51st Rallye Glenwood. The MG Club appreciates it.

Have a great drive this weekend. Think about me building a Roman Chariot with 5 3rd graders at my daughter's school.
Do you think 3rd graders are capable of engineering at this level? much less construction?
Looks like a lot of work to me.
Have a nice drive.

Scott

So, did this drive actually happen? I awoke this morning to several broken branches on my trees, so beating the snow off the trees and bushes was my morning priority.

wow! snow again!

I might be heading out to Colorado with Clover in a week or 2. If so, I'll let the gang know our plans in advance!

Ah, Colorado where if you are at the right altitude, you could see snow anytime during the year. The only month I haven't been snowed on during is July.... I was 10,000 feet up for June and August, but it happened.

When we say "don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it will change," we back that *stuff* up!

Tomorrow's forcast calls for 59 degrees with a 20% chance of rain and back near 70 on Monday.
