More snow in the forecast for Denver!

I am finally ready!! I bought my first set of snow tires today. My Mini will not be stuck in the garage and I won't be stuck taking the bus. I noticed a difference driving home tonight. And for the first time in days I didn't get stuck in my parking lot. I know there have been a lot of threads on the snow tire debate but I now agree snow tires are necessary for this car if you live in a winter climate and want to drive. And the guys that worked at the tire store (as well as the patrons) were in love with my Mini!! I now feel confident to drive the Mini in snow and my stress is gone!!

Great move getting snows on your MINI. You & those sharing the road with you will be safer for it. Now the snow tires that I bought seem to have the ability to keep snow away. None so far this year.

Ahhhh, this is one of those "rare" ocassions that make me happy about living in Miami... Right now we have a cool 65F, sunny and no a cloud in the sky!

Snow? What's that?

I really wish I could drive my MINI in the snow, really I do, but something about my Volvo getting hit 2 times in the last year durring snowy conditions makes me keep her in the garage. That said, the snow tyres on the Volvo are great!

It sure has been a wierd start to winter. Lots of rain, and a fair amount of cold even, but we do seem to be missing the mixture of both. But I have a feeling by this time January, we will be in the mess of it.

Glad to have LSD

More snow? Bring it on! I thought I'd like having LSD for auto-cross but I'm seriously loving it in the snow!

When I first purchased my '04 MCS in October, I figured that it would stay in the garage on snowy days, and I'd just use my '94 Jeep Cherokee instead. I bought a set of cheapie aluminum wheels and some Pirelli studded tires (we get lots of ice here) for it anyway, just to be on the safe side.

After our big snow storm last week, I decided to give the Mini a whirl anyway. I could not believe how well it does in winter conditions! Despite the lack of ground clearance, it handled like a champ! I got sent home from work early twice last week (blizzard conditions), and the Mini was able to tool along when some of my coworkers 4x4s were having trouble. Unless the snow is really deep, I actually prefer taking the Mini over my Jeep!

Unfortunately, I'm not the only one on the road. When the road conditions get really bad, I'd rather drive my Jeep simply for the fact that I'd rather see my Jeep involved in an accident than the Mini - it's much easier to find a Jeep replacement. I live in a military town where there's constantly a lot of winter newbies, and hence a lot of accidents when the roads get slick. So yeah. The Mini typically stays garaged on these days.

I went to tech school in Denver in '97-'99. It was a fun place to be! Definitely miss driving out on some of those mountain roads west of Denver!

I'd be happy to ship you some snow from Denver!! I'm sure my neighbors would as well... I love the snow but there can be too much of a good thing. We got 3 ft. last week and are bracing ourselves for another 10 to 16 inches tomorrow through Friday night. Even with the snow tires I know my Mini is not going to fare well in 16 inches of snow. I'm going to drive her to work tomorrow (the storm is supposed to hit about noon) but after that she will be stuck in the garage for a few days. I hope mother nature gives Denver a break for a while after this storm!!!!

Hey, Darren...I don't know if you've read many posts by lotsie, but until recently, he lived in Manitoba, Canada and was always posting about how great his Cooper handled in the snow. He posted many times about how many SUVs and 4x4s were in the ditch as he motored along! I know he used winter wheels, too!

If I would have known about how great these cars are in the snow, I would have gotten one sooner than I did. Now if only these cars had some bad driver repellent, I'd be more likely to drive mine even in the worst of conditions.

No kidding! I was parked in a COSTCO lot last Friday, sitting in my MINI, and a drunk driver in a minivan ran into my car because he couldn't negotiate the HUGE parking space next to me! Then he fled the scene. Fortunately, only the reflector in the rear driver-side wheel arch and that portion of the wheel arch needed to be replaced ($36 in parts). But what a scary hassle! If you invent that repellant, I'll buy some!

I just got done shoveling about two inches of snow (NW Denver). About half an inch fell in the time it took me to clear the driveway.

I just put my Mini to the test in her new snow tires. It's snowing bad right now and there are several inches on the ground. It was amazing!!! Other cars were sliding and I didn't slide once. Then I got to the frontage road hill where everyone gets stuck. Sure enough, a Toyota truck was stuck. I went right by him. Then passed another truck in the ditch, went right by him. And the best part is I'm sure other drivers were looking and wondering how my tiny car was making it!!!! My Mini is now resting in the garage where she will stay until the blizzard is over. And I am smiling, this car is excellent in the snow with snow tires. And to think I almost took the bus to work today because I was worried about the commute home!!!

My MINI is not going anywhere for a LONG time. The pic is after the first snow, but the pile is still just about as big....

No pics of the MINI in the snow as it really never goes out even in the rain. Guess it is time to start the winter project of the custom interior....next week will be tear down time, this is making my wife a bit nervious

Hope everyone is still fairing well with the extra snow from yesterday.
