Vir Results BMWCCA Cub Race
Vir Results BMWCCA Cub Race
Well, this past weekend was the first trip to VIR for Jason and myself. We heard great things about this track and were anxious to try it out.
After a 14 hour haul from Baton Rouge, we made it there in time for the friday practice.
Our excitement soon turned to frustration when we discovered that both CV-joit boots were torn and wer eleakeng grease. A trip to the nearest autoparts store was in order to find some aftermarket split boots. Needles to say, it was a messy job but we got them replace.
We only got one practice session in on that day. BTW, the track is awesome and very technical.
Saturday we decided that Jason would qualify the car for the enduro and start the race. Gremlins came out again and one of the CV joints desintegrated while Jason was full throttle going up through the high speed esses.....No enduro for us on Saturday.
Thanks to Ada Cheung and Bookie Binkley for helping us find another complete half-shaft assembly that went to get at Flow Mini in Winston-Salem.
We worked on the car till 9:00 pm but got it back together and ready for Sunday.
The field had shrunk from 68 cars on Saturday to 45 cars on Sunday. Jason put the car in 10th overall on grid and 3rd in class out of 8 DM cars.
He did and oustanding job of finishing 2nd in class and 9th overall behind some very powerfull E-36 M3's in CM & BM classes.
We will be off to Texas to the newly lenghthened Motorsports Ranch near Dallas for another BMWCCA event.
We are both looking forward to racing there again, one of our most favorite tracks for the Mini...Just wish ther were more Minis to join us.
Regards,
Steve

MSRC is a fun track! The new section is a ton of fun, but a little less room for error in a few places.
Good luck!

I was at the club race this past weekend (15th). I watched you qualify. It was a fun day--I got to do the parade lap in an X3. I checked out your MINI, very nice. I didn't get a chance to talk to you guys, you were dealing with the CV issues.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you got the problem worked out. Good luck the rest of the season.
