Depends on how much fabrication you want to do. Check out Pegasus racing or Summit racing supply. They have quick release units and hubs for racing wheels. I'd go 320mm or 340mm on the MINI. You will lose your airbag and unless you disconnect it or wire it, you'll have an airbag light.

Hope that helps!

Same one HERE, but cheeper
I have this one and so does Randy (M7). I got mine before I decided to go nuts and never installed it. Randy installed his and posted a pic here on NAM a while back.
I may not be using mine, so if your interested I may be selling it. Not sure now but should know in a couple of weeks.

The install would of course mean loosing your factory wheel and everything that comes with it. It's not a huge deal at all. The wheel is easy to pull off. Like Randy W says, you'll need to fool the airbag light if it bothers you.
Talk to Randy (M7) as he found a way to regain some remote functions via bluetooth I think.

Note; Just make sure before you pull your wheel that it and the wheels are perfectly straight because once that VAC is on, it's quite hard to get off. It has no splines and just compress fits so the shaft splines dig into the sleeve.

So, how does the steerig wheel in a MINI mount?

Does the steering column have splines on it or is there just like a key to hold the wheel in place?

Ive heard the BMW M3 column adapter will work with only minor mods...

I used the hub adapter which Onasled found and it worked quite well. I have a Momo wheel and a sparko button set. I know it sounds strange but the wheel makes the car seem even smaller but in a good way.

After looking at this picture again i realize how dirty the car was LOL . I have since applied trim around the CF plate behind the wheel and the lower dash cover is completely in place not hanging out like this shot. Oh ya I vacumed too

It is a taper fit . At first i thought they sent the wrong piece but it worked fine. It is a press fit created by screwing in the steering wheel center bolt. Make sure the wheels are straight ahead and the hub straight when you press it on.

oh yeah, has anyone determined exactly how to trick the air bag light?

can you do it with a resistor like with the seats? I dont understand how that crap works, so any insight to that would be of help!

You are welcome to give it a shot. The removable aspect of the system may be a little difficult to home brew but more power to you if you can do it.

I am getting this. Made in Japan by Work Bell with air bag canceler built in. Bit expensive but worth it.

Looks like a nice unit. Is that a full time mount or a quick disconnect ?
One thing we didnt mention was that when you lose that air bag you should count on always wearing at least a 4 point if not 5 or 6 point harness. If it is a Schroth system make sure your helmet is full face. There was a very sad incident last summer with a Subaru at Willow Springs .

Good data so far ....

http://mini.ca/en/More_MINI/Targa_Ne...s/default.aspx

Check that one out, above link, click on the steering wheel

? Quick disconnect -Does that mean you go back to stock or just that you get seated, then connect steering wheel- like in a real race car?

Pfunk, let us know how it works and costs

The quick disconnect is the same system as in a race car . There is a spring loaded collar you lift up on and the wheel comes off.

What exactly needs to be modified on it to fit?

Grant sells a permanent mount BMW adapter, I really dont need to have a quick release on my car, so it would work nicely if I could get it to fit.

Summit gave me the wrong adapter!

I go to slide it on the shaft and its much much smaller than the MINI shaft!!!

Is this the adapter you used?

The problem with these e-bay sellers is that they never use the picture for the right fitment.

I think mine looks wider at the base (the round thing).

My invoice does mention # MOMOMMH2008

One thing if you go with a quick release, don't skimp, buy a decent unit. Cheaper ones can introduce a bit of annoying play in the steering and I've had two friends, oddly both at the Glen, who've had the steering wheel come off in their hands at speed as they thought it was locked down but wasn't. The video is certainly funny to watch in retrospect as they struggle to get the wheel back on, but it certainly wasn't funny for them at the time.

unless i have to drill a few new holes for a five bolt steering wheel....

Oh, yeah, J....

One question. Since my car will be street driven, i need to know if removing that white ring that the airbag and the horn wires attach to will effect the turn signals at all.

Well, ot make the question easier, do your trun signals and stuff cancel and work like they should still?

Does this white umm.... thingy (lol) cancel the turn signal? I can see its used for the horn, but i dont know if it does anything else...

Oh yeah, heres the new wheel i purchased from Summit. Made in Italy by Autotecnica. Its really nice and the leather mayches the Leatherette very closely. It feels really good in your hands too. Cant ask for too much more for a $50 wheel!

Steering wheels

I used a nice Sparco three-spoke wheel with two small red buttons . You can get the quick-disconnect hub from VAC Motorsports.
I can post photos later.
