Toyo RA1 track tires
Not 16 but
I use 205-17-40 Toyo RA1 shaved, not even close to rubbing anything
They are small
PS: I'll be in Tonawanda for the 4th of July week, sans MINI
Maybe you can drive your car down to the Canal for one of the concerts ?

I really need some info on 16's before Mosport next month. I need to replace my Kumho's before then and not sure which way I'm going on sizes or tires.
RA1's do seem to last. Let me know when you get in town.

If you get an answer through PM or other sources, let us know what it is. Or let us know what choice you make on your own. I'm in the same boat. My track wheels are 16", and the choice of what RA1 size is not obvious.
It looks like 205/55/16 is the only size that would fit.
They're a little taller than stock, but pretty close,
so might rub a little on a lowered suspension.
Many people do use this size on street cars.

Greg,
I've got 16"x7.5" +43 offset.
205/50 would be safe as far as rubbing goes, but narrower and taller than optimal.
225/50 - not much shorter, possibly too wide.
245/45 - gotta be too wide, right? Even if it fits, I wouldn't need that much rubber.

Since when has "need" had anything to do with it?
I ran 225/50/15 Yoko ES100s on Konig Rewinds last year. Only *very* minor rubbing in the rear at full suspension travel. Stock suspension. Just a little anecdotal evidence that the width'll work, at least.

The RA-1's are OK but..... there is a better cheaper tire.
The NITTO NT-01 is the same compound as the RA-1 but with bigger tread blocks, stiffer sidewalls and they are cheaper than the RA-1's
Since our cars are front drive we wear them out quick. I can get 3 days out of a set of RA-1's and 11 days out of a set of NITTO's.
check them out.

Hmmm, ... never heard this before. In fact quite the opposite. My RA1s lasted forever. In fact they only really started to get real good after 3 days of the Glen. Are you getting them shaved? If not then yes, they get sloppy with full tread after 3 days maybe. Overheat too much.
How are they going bad?

Here are my thoughts on your tire wear vs mine.
My car is factory weight. The only thing i've done to make it lighter is wheels. Other than that it's a pig of a car. It's the front left tire that takes the beating on my car. Since the RA-1's are directional with tread I can only rotate front to back. The Nitto's are inside outside specific I rotate them around the car giving the hardest working corner a break. Also, the Nitto's are molded to 6/32's instead of 8/32's so no need to get them shaved. That's even more saved $$$ not having to shave them.
Give them a try
Pretty new tire and popular sizes are often back ordered. the 205/40/17's have always been around.

RA-1's are directional but it only matter in the wet. You can use them either way on dry tracks. AIM tires at Infineon told me this.
