Perfect weekend for Octane MINI at Shannonville
Over 55 cars met at Shannonville Motorsport park, located 13 miles East of Belleville, Ontario, for the second week-end of racing in the 8 round Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship. This was a special week-end with increased participation, as competitors gathered to obtain the right to compete at the next round, the Toronto Grand-Prix.
Having started the season strong with two first place finish during the first weekend of racing, defending Touring class champion Alain Lauzière was expecting stronger competition this weekend from drivers with machines that were more prepared to compete. Piloting the Original MINI Accessories Cooper S, Lauzière managed to secure the pole on Saturday, while the top 3 competitors qualified within 6/10th of a second. “The car was good but we pushed a bit too hard trying to improve during our last qualifying lap,” mentioned Lauzière. “We went off in the grass in corner 7. The car was in good condition, but the crew had to re-do the set-up at the end of the day as a few suspension components were affected by the agricultural trip”.
Driving with 50 lbs. of “reward weight” added to the car by the officials, in order to equalize car performance as a virtue of the wins during the first week-end, the Octane MINI showed that the organiser’s formula must work as the it managed to cross the finish line in first place, but with only a margin of 6 seconds in front of the Honda Civic of long-time competitor James Foote.
The Sunday race proved interesting as another competitor’s Civic stayed glued to the rear bumper of the Castrol & Simone performance-sponsored MINI for most of the race. Unfortunately for the Honda, the transmission failed with a few laps to go and competitor Robert Calisi did a wonderful job at bringing back the Honda in second place without 4th gear.
Octane Motorsport will partner with RSR Motorsports from the USA to compete in the KONI Challenge round at Mosport on June 14-15-16. The Octane team will re-join the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship at the Steelback Toronto Grand Prix on July 6,7& 8 as a supporting venue to the CART race.

Thank you all for the kind words. And sorry for sounding repetitive. I guess it's a good thing after all.
We expect the big guns to be out at the Toronto event. But we start with an "unfair" advantage. We ran there twice before. Most of the other teams never have.
Hopefully we can have a productive week-end at Mosport also. The competition will obviously be to a different level!

50 pounds of dead weight does not prevent your continued success! Congrats Alain, again.
