Missing Sensor?

Just bought a 2011 Mini Countryman (base) this week. It has been great, but a deeper inspection of the engine revealed that there is a component missing. It looks like it is probably a sensor. Anyone know what is supposed to be there? The first image is my Countryman. The second is an image of what should be there. Help!

I'm sure I'll have a few other questions as I familiarize myself with the Countryman. I've never owned a MINI before.

Odds are you have the new thermostat model that has the temp sensor integrated there.

What happened to that "good PPI" you mentioned in your other thread ? As 'I Forge_KC' noted, the new/replacement thermostat sensor eliminated the need for that connection. Just as well cuz it was forever failing & leaking.
