Broken lumbar support

A couple weeks ago after I took a ride in the passenger seat I noticed the lumbar support of the drivers seat didn't work at all. It's as if it slowly broke over time so no one noticed. The only way we could be sure was to sit in the drivers seat and play with the lumbar **** and then sit in the passenger seat and do the same. We took it to the dealer and they verified that a part of the frame in the seat that the lumbar support attaches to was indeed broken. They ordered replacement parts from Germany and replaced it under warranty.

Now it feels like it's doing it again... Anyone else have this issue? If you haven't maybe you should try out both seats and you might find that you do..

I visited the dealership in August and they ordered the parts, but before they notified me that the parts were in, I discovered that they'd damaged the black vinyl part on the back of the driver's seat.
They are claiming that they had no reason to be in the back seat, but this really doesn't make sense. They had to access the internals of the seat somehow, either through the apparent access panel on the back, or by removing the seat.

Does anyone here know how these things are serviced? I'd like to poke a hole in their story like they did in my seat.

I believe they un-clip the seat covering down at the bottom, where the seat back hinges. Then they roll it up over the top of the seat. I could certainly see how it could be damaged but I may be wrong.

Just got our car back from the dealer yesterday after they were not able to duplicate the "engine stumble" issue we have been experiencing, and this morning noticed the lumbar adjustment on the driver's seat no longer adjusts. The **** just spins. Actually it may have been been broken for a while as we don't adjust the lumbar that often. Ugh! Back to the dealer again.

My driver side lumbar support also got broken at the dealer. They never admitted to breaking it, but replaced it under warranty without question.

We have no idea if the dealer broke ours or if it has been broken a while. We rarely use the adjustment. It may be just a complete coincidence that we noticed it the day after it was in their shop.

Our dealer fixed ours under warranty, and with no apparent damage to the seat.

I thought it was interesting when the service advisor knew they had a replacement lumbar adjuster in stock, and that he also knew the seat needed to be disassembled to make this repair. I am guessing that these are indications that this is a commonly needed repair.

After making sure they installed the updated lumbar support part, no more issues!

We Just took delivery of our Countryman on Tuesday and my wife noticed that the Driver's side lumbar is broken.

Our nearest dealership is an hour and a half drive. Needless to say, she isn't too happy. Yes, we knew it was a calculated risk if we needed service but, who knew we would need it within days of delivery.

If it was me I'd just wait until other service is needed, which in fact I am doing and I'm only 10 minutes from the dealer.

So would I. But, if all goes well, and I hope it does, that won't be until the first oil change at 10K.

If Mini knows this is a problem, why wouldn't they inspect the car for it before sale?

I finally got mine fixed, dealer claimed it was not a usual repair, however according to the service records prior owner had the same problem fixed by the liar-ship, I mean dealership.

Liarship? Oh, you mean the "stealer" (dealer) :-)

7 times lunbar support broken.

My passenger's lumbar support has broken 7 times since november. The dealership has just told me it has to be my fault and they would fix it once more by courtesy only if I sign a waiver. When I asked to send me the document to have my lawyer see it they said that they would give it to me only if I signed it. Moreso they told me they had spoken to mini usa and that mini usa told them not to cover that part anymore. What should I do?

Ask them to explain how it could be your fault?

I found it best to set it once and leave it in position. It is a poor design, but could probably be fixed to be better than new by someone with basic mechanical skills.

they told me to deflate it when I got out of the car and inflate it when sitting down. Anyway my lawyer said not to sign the document. She said that if it breaks 1000 times more thay would have to fix it.

You would think that after 7 'fixes' they would just replace the entire seat...

I had mine in to an automotive upholstery shop to have the two left hand driver's side seat panels replaced. While they had the seat apart they showed me that several lumbar support rods were broken. They were able to replace them for an additional 50 bucks. I might add that the upholstery work was factory perfect. The dealership might not be the best place to go for this problem.
