On Tuesday (10/09) I called and officially complained thru MINI C/S. Since I was dropping off my R56 S HB for three recalls tonight, I decided that I should this time officially MINI myself. While I was at it, I also asked to have my Connected software update approved (I have an early 2011 MCS HB with Connected [no Nav] and have not been able to get the update to work from a USB drive). Since it is in the shop for three recalls, and since the rattle seems to realistically be a design defect in the speedo, I figured it was worth asking that the software update be made as a "good will gesture..." (The fact that we just picked up a new X5 35d two weeks ago might have also gotten mentioned...)

Also worth checking the red battery cover under the hood to see if it's closed properly. Half of the rattling came from that cover and the other is from the speedo.

Mine was in last week for a few minor recalls. Also complained about the off/0n, at times constant noise coming from the passenger side dash.
After tearing apart the dash, re-assembling, test driving, noise still apparent, again taking it apart and still no answers. I mentioned that some of those on NAM indicated some noise issues from the battery area. The following day they re-tracked all the cabling for the battery and around it. They wrapped protective sheathing around all those coming in contact with parts and other cables. Noise/Rattle Gone! Thanks to NAM for those bringing it up and to my service department for going out of there way to find the issue. And for the record, they had to write it up as some other, more common issue, as it would of raised flags with Mini, not a recommended/approved procedure.and the time they took to troubleshoot....

And I received a call back from MINI USA C/S regarding my rattle in the Speedo when decelerating (10-0) - no fix available at this time. I'll try tracing the battery cable and wrap that as needed myself since I am making no headway thru my dealer or MINI.

Combined with the fact that I can't update my Connected software - also confirmed today (have a November 2010 build) - I must say that I am NOT satisfied with my MINI right now!

Hmm, Nov. 2010 build here to, no ability to software update. Do you at least see album art? Because mine doesn't.

Nov. 2010 build here as well. Frustrated that I am not able to update Connected I do get the album art though....at least I did before I bought an iPhone 5. Now I have to wait for the new cables from Mini!

Love driving the car. But all of these stupid little issues are starting to add up and I am starting to look at other manufacturers.

After my discussion with MINI USA C/S last year (useless since they did NOTHING) and living with that f&^#ing rattle EVERYTIME I came to a stop for another 7 months... I fixed mine by selling it to a nice older gentleman that could not hear it! And yes, I did tell him about it and even gave him a copy of the TSB. Since I have no issues with how my dealer (sells MINI & BMW) handled this issue, I'm switching to an X1 35i.
