General Creak / Rattle / Buzz Solution Log

I thought it might be helpful to start a list of creaks/rattles etc. that have been fixed for ease of reference. I'll start:

1. Low-frequency rattle on the passenger side: This is the passenger seatbelt buckle rattling against the pillar. Bring the little plastic support piece up high enough to prevent this.

2. Hard, plastic-on plastic rattle in the dash. Apparently, there is a bulletin out on this regarding a bundle of cables that are wrapped in hard plastic. This can get too close to the dash and cause the rattle. The dealer fixed this and added torque to the radio screws, and the rattle has gone away.

3. Sunroof rattle -- see sticky. Apparently affected by the drain plug in the boot.

Any others? In general, the countryman is way less rattle-y than my '07 MCS was.

Buzz over rough pavement near the front right passenger door or somewhere in the right side of the dash. Buzz/rattle in the driver's side pillar (unrelated to the seatbelt rubber stoppers (which also buzz). Creak in roofline/windows when going over something like a speed hump.

I'm going to bring mine in tomorow. One thing I noticed is that all of the windows have some "give" against the seals, causing them to creak when going over bumps. You can actually push on them from the inside or outside with only moderate pressure to have them creak.

Rattles in both pillars, and almost a constant buzz over rough pavement on the passenger side. Buzz in passenger door near the dash. Buzz in the dash itself.

The whole thing gets very annoying as even my much cheaper cars never rattled this much.

Rattles and groaning

Same issues with the pillars. Lots of loud rattling, and creaking/groaning of the whole roof when going over bumps.

Aside from already mentioned noises, unidentified rattle from the center rail area in the back seat. There is a dome shaped plastic cap where the rail terminates that appears to be loose and might be the cause. Could be the cup holders.

Rattle Resolved

I just posted this in the General Section. Sorry that it is a repost but hopefully it helps.

My Countryman All4 started to rattle on the passenger side dash at around 1500 miles. I haven't had much time to deal with it but finally spent some time today trying to find it. I took everything that wasn't bolted down out of the car just to make sure it wasn't something dumb.

Tonight, I opened the hood and looked around. I opened the battery compartment cover and voila. There is a red plastic cap covering the positive battery terminal that had sprung open and was resting against the inner firewall.

I snapped it back into place and took the same bumpy ride that I take every morning where I could normally hear the rattle. There is now total silence! It feels and sounds like a new car again.

I hope this helps others that have been annoyed by the noise like I have. Let me know if it does.

I had this too, but I fixed it. If you take the rubber mat out of the rail you will find some screws. If you remove these you will find that the rail comes out quite easily. I put 3M foam doublstick under each hole and reattached the rail. I also put friction tape around the lip that the aforementioned platic cap sits on and no more rattle or vibration noise.

Interestingly, both sides of what sounds like the pillar rattle are resolved by pressing straight in on the armrests of each front door. I don't know if there is a molding issue with the pieces, but that pressure stops those buzzes instantly and consistently.

I have same creaking sound described above - any level of frame flexure causes all the door seals to creak. I have an apptmt with the Mini District Service Manager and will discuss it. That meeting was setup for a nagging right front suspension clunking sound that can't seem to be fixed after a couple of visits and replacing a bunch of parts. Please note I LOVE the Countryman, just need to resolve these couple issues. I hope there is a better solution than the teflon tape mentioned in this blog. We'll see...
