So I threw a CEL today.

Car was acting normal. But had three bars of gas left. Stopped to go out and make sure gas cap was clicked to no avail. Went to local auto parts store and got the code P173B. Said something about manufacturer transmission ctrl...any ideas. Unplugged the obd device and it was gone. Of course it Saturday and I live 120 miles to the dealership.

Matt,
I got an indicator light today as well. Is it just the CEL or is the picture of the engine in yellow that is "half full"?

I took mine into the dealership and the service guy said that it has been happening a lot and it has just been an emissions fault. He said that it is still driveable. I will let you know what they do to "fix" it.

Mine has thrown dozens of cel's and they all reset on their own -- tons of tire monitor failures and one false flat tire alarm- drove the 2 hours to the dealer and all they did was reset it and tell me to bring it back for the modifier to look at the codes- added lights and gauges- give me a break@!

I had a check engine light and took it to the dealer...they said I had an air leak and it was a minor thing...had to wait on a part for a month and will be taking it to them in a week...should take at least a day to work on it because they need to plan they said...

My car threw some more CEL's today and my 4x4 system shut down- tire pressure monitor malfunctioned and seat belt alarm all went off and after about 2 min the seat belt alarm reset only to go off again- they all reset when I turned off the car and turned it back on.

Ours just threw a CEL tonight. All systems checked out ok when looking through the car systems area of connected so no idea what the heck it is. Going to call the dealer tomorrow and get it checked out. Have to drive it in the meantime otherwise I can't get to work. Kind of a pita.

Just my luck....left work and went out to the car. Started the car and the check engine light was not on! Drove out to dealer and talked to the service guy. He said I could either have them run a test or I could just leave and call him if it comes on again. He was saying if they find the CEL was thrown due to a loose fuel cap that is not covered under warranty and it would cost $130. I know 100% that I tightened the fuel cap when i filled up last Saturday so if that would have been the case I would be ticked. So I just drove home and if it comes on again I will call. Kind of a pain.

So why do you have to pay if you are under warranty...because he did his job.

That's BS, btw, they can't charge you for that. Anywy I through a CEL today too, I have no time to go to the dealership right now, so hopefully it goes away on it's own, or I'll bust out the OBDII, if I can find it. Car is runningnfine btw, so I'm suspecting a exhaust issue.

Gone today, not when I drove to work, but on the way home. Hope it was just something random with the exhaust because of a harsh drive through Brooklyn streets in the rain yesterday.

Had a CEL today too. Have had MINIs before with occasional codes, but rarely has a MINI left me stuck somewhere. Vehicle status said everything was OK despite the yellow engine light. Today's code turned out to be the thermostat. Strange (simple) part to go out on a vehicle with only 3,000 miles. SA said they'd seen several like that. Couple hours later back on the road. Kinda makes me wish I had some basic gauges like temperature and voltage. Guess I can always bring a scanner for long trips.

I just threw my first CEL today with all of 415 miles on the car. The MPG is droping on the car, averaging 15.3 this tank. Guess I better get it in the shop....pain in the ****!

Just got my car back last night and my CEL was a faulty thermostat also. Everything checked out great. they drove the car for a hundred miles to make sure it was the problem.

Another CEL with computer saying all is well with the world again. They'll tell me what it was after the holiday weekend. Hopefully not thermostat again, but it was over 100F when it went off.
