I have a 2010 R56 1.6l non s engine and I have an opportunity to buy a 2011 countryman with a toasted engine...are they the same so i could just do the swap and get it up and running?

They are as long as it’s the same N18 motor. The short blocks and the same for both N18 motors.

Sorry I just read your post again. Your 2010 R56 uses a N14 motor and the Countryman uses a N18. They are different and the ECU’s aris different. You need to look for N14 motor 2007-2010 S or 2011-2012 JCW use N14

non s is actually an N12 on your car....As mario said, once you cross the 2011 mark, you are enter the new designed engines (N18 and N16). what are the details on the Countryman?

You might be able to do it but here are few things to consider:
1- Mating the new DME to the existing CAS
2- checking the DME connector that goes inside the car.
3- you have to pull the engine with all accessories that come with it including the wiring harness.

well my plan would be to leave the cas and dme in the countryman that is came with and only replace the long block...the countryman is complete so couldnt i just use the harness on the blown engine and transfer it to the replacement long block if the connector is not the same. I am not trying to reinvent the wheel here...i am just trying to get the car running and drivable again. I would be swapping a n16 for an n16...i am going to try and get one from a countryman but there is a chance i may get one from a clubman or a regular cooper. in that case i dont know if i will have to swap injectors, plugs, wires, coil, starter, etc

You lost my friend....your car is a 2010 cooper right? It has an N12 engine not N16.
