I just received my universal lightning snap-in adaptor (84212365786), connected it, connected my old iPhone 6+, aaaaaaaaaannnnnd no audio. Connected connects, artwork shows up, I can control everything, but I get no audio. Anyone have experience with this? I did some digging online and noted that there might be a fix by changing the coding for USB2_IPOD_AUDIO to set to digital instead of analog. Has anyone done this? What's the best route to change this - I don't currently own any software or hardware to pull the car's data, so I'll need recommendations for hardware/software.
If not, I might have to test ECSTuning's return policy...
I think the new universal adapters only work with the 3rd gen MINIs.
I'm not sure if changing the coding will allow your adapter to work, but it does let you plug an iDevice into the USB port with just the Lightning cable. No Y-cable required.
Starting in March, they won't even be putting the snap-in adapter connections into any cars anymore.

Same experience here a while back...Bought the universal snap-in adaptor from ECSTuning...and yes you will have to switch USB2_IPOD_AUDIO to set to digital instead of analog. While you are there might as well switch USB_IPOD_AUDIO to set to digital instead of analog too so that you can utilize the USB port located in the center console. And then you can utilize the white stock apple lightning cable that shipped with your phone.
I had a "BMW coder" read/reflash the firmware in under 5 minutes. It was a scary experience at first because you should be aware that you can "brick" your Mini if the firmware is not flashed properly. Fortunately, the gentleman that help me was very proficient, know what he is doing very well, and surprisingly only charged for $30.00 USD for that update. If you were in the SFO airport area he is only a few minute drive towards Skyline Drive. Best ever $30.00 spent on my 2013 CM ALL4 JCW. Now I can hear the audio and do nat have to deal with the crappy compressed bluetooth sound.
What boggles my mind is that BMW/Mini does not do this for people. Sorry I cannot endorse any hardware/software to re-code your mini especially after receiving mostly defective hardware 4x from Amazon/Ebay/CL. Good Luck.
Had a similar experience with "no audio" last year...
My first unboxing photo share...
I ordered the same item last year from ECSTuning. The package arrived well packed and on time as expected.
After realizing that BMW/Mini hardcoded my 2013 CMS JCW All4 in "analog" with no owner UX access to "flip" the switch to "digital" and with IPhone 6+ usb audio output is in digital...Changed the settings in USB1 and 2 like how the OP described it. Attempted to do the patch myself but the search for a fully compatible dongle was a challenge...that is another story...I utilized another resource person recommended to me with NCSExpert expertise...
I am very surprised BMW have not yet patched this issue which can be easily fixed under 5 minutes...
Been enjoying digital audio the way it should be since we applied the "update" 😊
Interesting! I am not seeing this elsewhere on the site (or finding it). How do you change the code for usb1 & 2? Anyone have a link? I "finally" got connected working through the Y cable/Apple lightning adapter in a reliable fashion so I could use audible & Spotify (latest software update & and understanding that you have to back out of the device menus, wait 60 seconds, and then re-choose the app once it shows up).
The prospect of just using USB only without the adapter sounds amazing. I swap between phone and a Media Drive stored under my seat, and messing with the adapter connections blindly while driving is not easy. Having just 2 cables to plug/unplug would be awesome. Even better if you mean by "usb1 and usb2" using different USB ports? I tried a USB hub on the main media connection but it looks like there are not enough amps to power a HDD and a phone there.
I'm also curious what you used to change the coding, a VAG/COM cable? That iPhone App that uses the WiFi adapter? want to know what setup I need to get on to do this, would love to just use a standard lighting cable instead of the hokey contrapition with the 30 pin adapter.
I used a laptop with NCSExpert, a cable from Amazon, guidance from both NAM under the electrical section - there are numerous posts on coding and a guide posted already on this site, and guidance from another blog - http://jimmyselix.blogspot.com/2016/...n-windows.html
I also cross-referenced a few other sites and BMW blog posts on the matter. It's not for beginners, that's for sure, as you can easily FUBAR the computers in the car if you do something improperly or mistranslate something from German to English.
That might work, but that's not what's called out in the guides. It's possible that BMW Tools (aka INPA, NCSExpert, etc) are only made for the USB/Serial cable.
I can get a pic this weekend, after the car comes back from it's detailing appointment. However, I ended up abandoning the snap-in adaptor. The original idea was for me to use my old iPhone just to run the Mini Connected setup. However, the constant need to provide input to the phone to get Pandora and whatnot to open every time the car is started makes using the armrest much more difficult. I was hoping that if the phone was not used for anything else, it would just resume back to where it was when I stopped the car, but that's not the case. Not sure if it's an iPhone thing or a mini connected thing. So, I'm just using a ProClip and the front USB to run everything on my newer iPhone.
I wish there was an option to simply insert a sim into the head unit and let it handle the apps and connectivity natively. There's still too much distraction with fumbling around with a phone to get music and other connected features going.
I use the Koomis Pro and use a Coolstream Duo to play bluetooth through the stereo. It has super suction and has the option to make it permanent with a stronger adhesive pad but I haven't required anything more. Been on the dash of Scooper for 6 months and my Jeep the same. Never had to reset or come loose. That's going over roaf with the Jeep and relatively aggressive driving with the Mini.
Sure. Once I can get some decent photos, you'll have a better view. The Y-Cable didn't work so well for me. The phone refused to acknowledge that the cable was legit nor would it charge. Not to mention the cable wouldn't reach without some clunky extension cable setup. I ran the coding change for both USB1 and USB2 to digital successfully and use a simple usb lighting cable. Much better sound quality and phone charging.
Yea, find it weird the Y cable did not work for you.
Same here with the Y Cable experience...It did work with an IPhone 4S (Analog) but NOT working with the IPhone 6+ (Digital)...the FIX ...Also had both USB1 and USB2 switched (coded) from analog to digital.
I agree with Tundrageek...The sound quality and listening/driving experience with armrest snap-in is so much enjoyable now compared to BT connection.
Got it figured out. Changed the settings for both USB1 and 2. The snap-in adaptor now works as expected.
How do you change the setting? By yourself ?
and the centre console usb port works too?
No more need the Y-cable?
I have a R60 16' I never try the Y-cable and can't play the iPhone music.
it would display the song name, artist even the album photo, but no sound from the speaker. The music is played on iPhone speaker!!!!

I am a proud new owner of a 2013 Mini Cooper S and I ran into an issue with this particular snap-in with my iPod touch. Looking to see if others have this issue:
I get audio from the snap-in as expected, but if I turn the car off overnight, the next day I don't get audio anymore unless i eject the snap-in and plug it back in. I do get album artwork and the music plays, but no sound until the snap-in re-connects. Anyone else having a this issue?
I've successfully changed "USB2_IPOD_AUDIO" to digital (also changed USB1 to digital as well).
Thanks!

Anyone successfully get this snap-in to work consistently on every start-up?
Thanks!
