Lightening y-cable for 2013 Mini S

Hello -

My wife has a 2013 Mini S. I have not been able to find an OEM lightening y-cable for her car (I searched this forum and the internet). Before you mention it, she has the Apple OEM lightening adapter, but the sound quality is horrible. We purchased a lightening y-cable from Amazon, but the sound quality is horrible and it does not allow steering wheel control.

Mini recently came out with a lightening cable that the dealer said should eliminate the need for a y-cable; however, we tried it and it does not work in my wife's car (the dealer mentioned some folks were not able to use the new cable).

Does anyone know when this will be released, if at all?

Thanks

I used a iPhone 5s adapter(8-30 pin 3.5 audio jack) from ebay. Plug it onto OEM MINI y adapter. You do have to hear the sound from iPod/ Aux mode.

Thanks! I'll give this a try. The apple lightening adapter works with the Mini y-cable, but the audio is horrible. Hopefully, this is better.

The cables have been released:

61122287505 (MEDIA, with MINI Connected or Navigation) is currently en route from Germany.

61122287642 (MUSIC, No MINI Connected, No Navigation) is currently in stock.
http://mini.sewellparts.com/accessor...2013/6961.html

Your Dealer likely gave you part number 61122354909, which basically only works in the new 2014 F56- As it does not require a Y-Cable. (It is physically the same cable that your iPhone came with from Apple)

We have no explanation for the poor audio quality, you can have two people with the same car and the same cable and they both have different opinions about the quality.

If the cable does not work out for you, we will give you a refund. Simple as that!

Thank you! It's not the first time that they provided the incorrect part (even after I explained exactly what I required for my 335!).

I will order it ASAP.

AUX Audio Distortions

I figured it would be worth passing along this MINI Bulletin.

If you still continue to experience poor audio, have your Dealer inspect the AUX input ports. They are a common source of failure and have been redesigned as of June 2012.

I appreciate it! However, the poor audio is from the 30 pin to lightening adapter. The 30 pin y-cable works fine and sound quality is great. The sound quality becomes poor once the adapter is added.

I use the same Apple adapter. The wife has an older Ipod and the 5S. I did try the cheap Amazon one, but it didn't work on the mini or the BMW K1600GTL.

You could probably cut a section out, that would make it lighter.

Some parts do have discounts that are locked in place, or overidden. By doing so we extend the same discount to all customers who visit our website to remain competitive.

This cable is an one example. Some dealers retail the cable for $96.00-$105.00, we have a flat rate of $89.00 for anyone who visits the site.

Thanks!

I just purchased the cable. While sitting in the parking lot of the dealership, I plugged in my phone and started playing music. What first came out of the speakers almost caused me to get out of the car and return it! The sound was bass heavy, muffled, no treble and depressed midrange. It was awful. However, during the drive to work, the cable started to break in and the sound started to open up. I stuck with it and after an hour of continuous listening, it's getting there. It sounds way better than the 30 pin cable and the apple adapter. Give the unit a chance. I'll report more on the sound tonight after work

Will using this cable make a (noticeable) difference in audio quality? I'm using an aux cable at the moment and the quality is great (even with the volume on high which was something I couldn't do in my previous car).

The sound quality is improving. I have a 1/2 hour drive home tonight so I'll post an update later. I need this cable because I have mini connected in my car and it will allow connected to function via my iphone

I guess you may have a fault Apple 30-pin to lightning connector. I bought the 6 inch cord (available at Verizon Wireless) made by Apple for my iPhone 5s and it works perfectly with no audio quality loss at all. It also extends the iPod connection by 6 inches so I can have my phone in the mount on the dash but keep it connected via USB.

I know this is an old post, but can someone tell me the purpose of this cable? I have my phone connected via Bluetooth and I can listen to music, podcasts, take phone calls, etc. what benefit would the media cable serve?
Thanks!

I don't own one but I believe it is used so you can see the name of the song you are playing on the dashboard, so you can use the playback buttons on the steering wheel, etc.
