Installing Bonnet Stripes

Hi,
I was going to order the bonnet stripes from Sewell parts ($71.93) and try and install them myself, but am reconsidering. Now I am thinking of having the tint guy (www.tintanddetails.com) do it, and get a quote for a full detail and tinting job. Anyone else ever do this?

I ordered my stripes online, but I had a person who specializes in MINI stripes put mine on the bumper, bonnet, hatch, and rear bumper. I paid about $30 for the stripes.

I replaced my white bonnet and boot stripes myself. Ordered some generic ones off eBay. Removal was a long slow process. But installation not so bad. When done heat them with a hair dryer. It kinda "seals" them.

I installed my own stripes. They are non oem and can be a bit of a pain to install. I ended up redoing them once due to them not being straight. It was fairly easy as long as you are detail orientated, making sure you smooth them out and take the time with multiple viewing angles to get them just right. I did learn its easy to pop the chrome belt line up to tuck the graphic underneath to give a nice clean line. See the pics below.

We've installed a clear bra, and it was a bear--of course, we had no garage available which made it worse.

I'd have the tint guy do it and get your tint done. Summer is around the corner. Also consider getting your headlights done at the same time. I have done this on my last two vehicles and have not regretted it. (both the tinting and headlights)

If possible, get your bonnet stripes laminated, a clear vinyl layer over the color to protect it from bug damage. A couple of coats of good carnuba wax will give them extra protection too. If you claybar and polish, be sure to mask them off.

To the hair dryer guy: The hair dryer will soften the vinyl for easy removal. Once the back corner gets soft, start pulling straight down sweeping the heat along the pulled edge. Easy peasy.

+1

Who ever you get them from should supply a squeegee with a microfiber covered edge for pushing out air bubbles and smoothing them down. Work them out to the side if they form.

This is the kind of stripe I want! But it won't be happening any time soon. GoBadges seat covers are next, side stripes, and perhaps some more interior mods... Pearl likes the blackjack look so that's what I'm going for. She'll look great when it's all done!
Love your MINI!

Thanks for the compliments on the stripes! Now that it's getting warmer its time to put on the graphics. All I used was spray bottle with a bit of car wash soap and water in it! I am thinking about redoing them. I like grey but part of me want to go a bit out there and do a bright green. not sure yet...
